Depends on what you want to do in Beijing. If you're history buff, then of course the Forbidden Palace, Great Wall, and the Heavenly Temple is a must. These are quite cheap, except the Great Wall is much further away.
Don't get ketok by cab drivers - always insist on turning on the meter.
Pirated clothing is cheap, but quite poor quality. DVDs can be good, but many are in Russian (the locals won't know better). -

You might want to check on some weather website for Beijing during the period of your stay. I am not sure if the wind is strong this period or not, but I was told that the wind can get really nasty. The weather website said Spring for Beijing is mild, but with sand dust and storm. One tour guide told me that beginning Spring is bad because of the melting slush and ice. Summer which is now is hot and humid with rain (hopefully, the rain is cold enough for hailstone). Summer is also the peak, where the weight of tourists will almost collapse The Great Wall. I can't wait to step on THe Great Wall. Wish I have more time to walk a two days stretch, but, sigh....
Autumn is again cool and windy. Tourists like this season too.
Winter is mostly bitterly cold. Hard ice an snow everywhere and I can imagine the black slush on the Beijing Road. Oh yes, pollution is particularly bad in winter because of the extra coal burning to keep warm. -

Now I have to be wary of buying a different tea from the one I sample, getting less than what I am paying for, and now buying fake tea.
Where can I get someone reliable in a land so unfamiliar to me>
