Need help with iPod

Ok guys i own an iPod U2 which ive been using for the past 2.5 years. Just a few days ago the ipod kinda crashed. It refuses to turn on and always displays a folder with an exclamation mark. Applecare Centre staff told me that they do not dismantle ipods and do repairs, they only change batteries or completely replace the ipod. My ipod costed me $628 when i bought it, and I do not really feel like replacing it because its much cheaper to buy a new one and one with video. I do not really want to just throw it away either since Apple cant provide repair services in Singapore.
The question is, can anyone recommend any shop in Singapore where i can get such repair services? The Applecare Centre dude said I can try out Sim Lim Square but they are unlicensed. I figured if i cant fix this ipod ill get a new one anyway, so i dont care if the shops are unlicensed or not. I believe the hard disk of my ipod is damaged. So can anyone recommend any such shop with such services? Thanks. -
hold play for 6s alr? if i'm not wrong that's to reset it. but you won't lose your data.
how did you dmg your hard disk? did you drop it? if it just crashed on its own then it should not be a hard disk prob.
i used to have that prob but it turned out fine. and yes the folder with the exclamation mark symbol represents a hard disk problem but it was not true for my case (even tho i had it).
if you've still got all your songs in your computer or something then i recommend you go get a new one. 2.5yrs is pretty long and it's not under the warranty alr. -
I did the ipod reset thing already.. it just reset, the apple logo came out then the exclamation folder came out. I didnt drop it. The problem started when i plugged it into my computer for 6 hrs straight cos i was watching Heroes, and the Heroes files were stored in the ipod. I think the hard disk over heated. Now everytime i start up the ipod, i can hear the hard disk spin then it comes to an abrupt stop with a slight jerk and a click sound. I still have all my songs though. But i wanna try and see if i can get this fixed.

maybe it did overheat haha. can your comp read it when you plug it in? -
Nope, iTunes didnt detect it. I went to my computer and saw Apple iPod as a hard drive instead of the name i gave the ipod. Double clicked on it and it jammed.

I'm pretty sure it can be repaired. I just need some recommendations to which shop at sim lim square to go to cos i know ppl have had good and bad experiences there.
