NEw camera/hp batteries

when u buy new camera or hp batteries... do u use the new batt to no more den charge? or u straight away charge 5hrs for the new batt? pls give me ur input.. thanx

There is not much harm in either way. But it's better to let it charge for 8 - 10 hours when you are going to charge it for the 1st time. This is to let the battery and mainboard register the same battery level. Otherwise you might see that although the screen said it is fully charged, but when you switch on the device for a few mins, the battery level will drop very fast.
Also, for Lithuim Ion battery, it is better to charge it when the battery is about 25% - 50 % left. This will prolong the a normal battery life span to about 3 - 6 months. For Nickel battery, the best is to let it drain till it is empty before charging. -

A lot of people will recommend charging before using..but after initial charge, it's still not in optimum condition..only after about 8-10 charge and discharge cycle then the battery will reach its maximum potential..

Really must left a little bit then charge ah? Yeah, cos my company deal with rechargable battery power device. Some IA students help us did some research on battery before. For overnight charges, I am not very sure on it. But i think it is to prevent the battery from overheating or to prevent the internal parts from malfunction. But I do know that most devices have an auto cut off when the battery is full.
But just to play safe, do not charge overnight.
Just to add on, if you want to use the device with the adaptor switch on, like charging it while using it, it is better not too. For example, you want to play with your laptop using fixed power line, take out the battery if possible. This will prevent your battery from malfunction because of the heat from the laptop. Same goes for other device.

Is your's Li-ion battery? If its that, charging it whenever you like is still ok, as Li-ion battery lower storage capacity is due to aging, not because of the number of charges.Originally posted by de_middle:oh no....i have been charging overnight & charging it whenever i like
For me, if my hp battery is around 50%, and it will not last till tml evening, I will charge it. SE hp need only about 1 - 2 hours to fully charge it from 0%. -
Don't worry
Almost all phones have cutoff or goes into trickle charge when the battery is fully charged.
If not, your lithium battery would have gone up in flames long time ago, during the 1st charge... -

i've read alot on batteries and there're many school of thought regarding charging, storage, usage, bla bla bla. in the end, i just fuck it and use however i like and to my convenience. after all, u can only prolong the life of ur battery by few %. if one day ur battery go kaput then buy a new one, you're going to buy a new one someday anyways.
