i just need some opinion from all of you.
in the future i will be going oversea to persue my degree and which country you people think it's better for me to go?
let's say it's psychology degree.
initially i wanted to go austrailia but my teacher told me that she went there to study alone before and was discriminated by an austrailian teenager. it sounds pretty scary.
i also wanted to go france - either switzerland or paris because i like the scenary there but i also heard that there are strong discrimination against asian in france.
so i thought that as a chinese, it would be better for me to go to some asian countries?
japan and korea sound good but i've read many news that some game-addictors are very psychotic. especially when i'm taking psychology.
how about hong kong or taiwan? are they prestigious enough?
i'd probably choose hong kong as taiwan has earthquake.
or you people have any other ideal place which do not have such a strong discrimination, also considering that it's a safe country.

What would you like to do with your degree?
AFAIK if you study psychology in NUS, it'll just be a general Arts degree and not a proper degree in psychology.
Weigh the pros and cons of studying in different countries yourself, because nearly wherever you go, there will be discrimination... -

depends on the degree.
IF u wanna take psych. dun stay in singapore.
esp if u wanna be a psychologist.
and if u go overseas. ur going to paying for it (or your parents. whatever)
might as well make it worth it
dun tell mi u wanna go to a not so good uni to get your degree just cos there is no discrimination there.
anyways, once ur not a local, u will be discriminated against by some pple.
might as well pick a good one

Different bodies have different criteria for grading and ranking. Therefore, the rankings wont be consistent throughout. I know NUS used a English academics study ranking which placed NUS in 18th place among the world top universities. Havard comes out top(as usual).Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99: -

Study locally first and get a good honours from NUS. Then it will be easier for you to get a scholarship to pursue your masters overseas. You still get that once in a lifetime experience to study overseas. IMO, you should only study overseas IF you are going to a university better than our local ones, or to universities that offer what our unis dont offer. Most Aussie unis are just thrash. You still got time to think bout what you wanna do in future. Keep your options open to other careers.

even if you do it is extremely difficult to enroll yourself in prestigious overseas unis. -

Anyway, for getting a degree overseas, whether or not the universities are trash are subjective. Going to and Ivy League Uni or to Oxbridge doesn't guarantee you success. Likewise, graduating from a crap uni doesn't necessarily hinder you. It's up to the individual.
One thing you have to realise when you study overseas is that you have to fend for yourself a lot more. You need to be careful regarding the friends you make and you must be clear and firm on what you want. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that you're there to study, not play. Also, you will feel lonely from time to time, you must learn how to cook, do the laundry, clean and do grocery shopping pretty much on your own, not to mention budgeting. It might sound daunting, but if you think about it, you have to do that sometime, so might as well learn it soon.
If you're planning to study overseas, it's best to choose one where you have friends already ther to advise you. Else, choose a place that's familiar. Also, try to have the language on instruction to be one that you're very familiar with. Psychology requires tons of reading, don't expect yourself to get through it all if you can't understand most of it. -

if you wanna study overseas, first thing first is to check whether you have enough $$$ to support your uni and other fees. If your family can support you, that's good enough. You must also decide carefully what you're going to study before choosing your uni. That way, it's easier to find which uni offers programs that you're keen on learning. Don't think too much about discriminations in other country. Don't let this small things prevent you from fulfilling yr desire to study overseas.
So TS, what's your decision so far? -
i know we should not be letting things like discriminations to obstruct our future but i hope you people can understand that not all people are very brave especially when they are in a foreign country all alone. i personally feel that i would be very isolated if i were to be discriminated by my own classmates or even teachers. i would like to study happily during those years when everyone are being treated equally. hope all of you can put yourself in my shoes (:
i've asked advice from my teachers and they say hong kong and japan are not bad. i can still handle cantonese but if go learn another language like japanese might be too troublesome.
i've never thought of going to america for further studies so probably won't consider that country, no idea why.
i don't think it's necessary for me to get into some top international universities, as long as it's well-heard of in singapore. does not have to be too prestigious. i'm not fighting for places among those top universities. -
