It is a natural reaction for people from different races, cultures, nations to stand by their own fellow men when one of them is being mistreated by others. Take for example, the Indonesians calling for the death of the Malaysian PM when a wife of an Indonesian embassy officer in Malaysia was arrested on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant. Or after 9/11, many Americans looked upon all Middle Eastern people in their neighborhood with suspicions.
No doubt, stereotyping and generalising people is wrong, but I don't think deep down the forumners here are racists...they are just venting their anger. -
Just read today's The New Paper about this case...
The Ang Moh responsible for the video clip, Mr Bo Davis, stated that he and his friends were not bullies...but just "insensitive".
"Insensitive"??? F###k! The dickheads did not even pay the poor uncle, after agreeing on a $15 fare when they went on the trishaw. The uncle went to each of them, asking for $10 but they hailed a taxi and went off without paying him.
They are definitely bullies and cheaters!!! -

For everyone in this forum: don't generalize based on one incident.
No doubt some tourists give us the colonial treatment and some locals accept it, but there are plenty of other 'ang mohs' who are perfectly friendly and cultured.
Scandinavians and Europeans in general are courteous and cordial. Ditto for Aussies and New Zealanders.
I do agree that the Americans and British leave a poor impression wherever they go; they are almost always labelled as noisy and foul-mouthed, so i'm not surprised by the youtube video.
The article did not touch on the fact that those 3 dudes committed a crime and deserved a night in our local cell. Maybe then, they would think twice about bullying the elderly. -
