I think its just YOUR muslim friends laOriginally posted by CUM ON MY FACE:As much as I love my muslim friends, i've this to say.
Why do they always have the 'I am a Muslim. Anyone got a problem with that?' attitude?
We have to take particular care that the food they eat at any canteen/restaurant/function/party/etc is certified halal. Otherwise there will be another uproar. Vegetarians served meat can reject peacefully. So can Jews served non-kosher food. So can hindus accidentaly served beef. These people are seldom afforded such special attention with regards to their food preferences.
The food issue is, among others, another avenue for segregation. We have 'Muslims, this way please', 'Muslims fall in!', 'Any Muslims here?', 'Sorry, we are Muslims', 'Sorry we don't eat (whatever)', 'Is that allowed in Islam?', blah blah.
To me, they seem to be overreacting.

but i wont be surprised if some bloody idiot calls ts a racist.
Race and religion is quite similar to a certain extend for musliM.Originally posted by mhcampboy:racist is for race...
Well.. I know this is sensitive and I don't mean to generalise, but I have to agree with the TS. On a very general level I really dislike their attitude. It's like they think being loud and uncouth will prove their point. That's NOT to say there aren't exceptions of course.. I can click damn well with some of my muslim NS mates.. They even ask me buy food for them secretly during fasting period.. Lolz.Originally posted by dragoncloud:I think its just YOUR muslim friends la... My muslim friends are very ok about it...we try to think about their needs la but when we forgot about the halal thing(like offering them non-halal food, they'll just reject it and remind us)
Think its just a small group that is overreacting...But we should be mindful about ther food requirement since we're 1 bg family
how so?Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:Race and religion is quite similar to a certain extend.
Yes, I dont understand why the need to be loud and uncouth. It's almost like when you somehow 'step on their toes', you almost expect them to get violent or something. Of course, there are exceptions. But generally, you get that feeling in your throat.. that they will hit back hard to get the point across.Originally posted by S.KCH:Well.. the part about flexibility is quite true. Even among my muslim friends, there is a variation between their level of 'edibility' of any given establishment.Originally posted by cApitaland:i mus agree on the poor upbringing and education part.
jus tht some muslim ple are inflexible. mus eat at place wif halal cert. got some even terror. halal cert oso cannt. they mus realli realli trust the person then can eat de food served. some like me bo chup coffee shop western food oso steady.
wna eat pork? go ahead.
loud and uncouth i believe bend more towrds malay and not muslim. due to the poor upbringing and education part. broken families etc. some malay might feel the need to conform to malay standards thus they oso gt loud and uncouth behavior, peer pressure. i dun realli mix wif those kinds.
Oh ya hor... Sorry. I stand corrected.. I watched the documentary 'Bloody cartoons' http://www.whydemocracy.net/film/11 We've had religious figures of every other religion portrayed in various demeaning ways over the course of history. Yet they do not have a global call-to-arms. Why such a huge outcry?
To make matters worse, the protests and demonstrations were called for by religious heads and imams. People who can easily mobilize the masses. Does the Pope call for protests and stuff? Or even your local bishop? Or Taoist priest?
To me, they seem to be overreacting.
There are many ways for people to speak up for their own rights. It is not necessary to reject an offer by saying "I'm so-and-so. Anyone got a problem with that?".Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:*snort*
if they are your 'friends' then i think the decent thing to do is to try and respect someone else's way of life.
i don't see what's the big deal about needing to go to a halal or vegetarian or kosher restaurant if there's someone in the group who feels more comfortable with it. It's just food!
You have to respect those who choose to speak up for their rights, for their beliefs, for their differences, without causing hurt to others. Would you assert your beliefs if one day you go to a place that serves you something you have been brought up to never consider eating?
Don't lump people who speak up for their rights to people who abuse religion to create wars.
