The state of mediacorp

I was watching the old SBC Mystery I rerun yesterday from 10.30 to 12.30
Even with a limited budget, they managed to produce one heck of a show.Great storyline,super acting.The only thing is they used to use voiceovers last time,compared to now.
Which comes to my point.Why is mediacorp's quality of shows nowadays so bad?It is so bad that the last show i really enjoyed and remembered was Holland V.For me,a great show has a great theme song and solid acting + script.What really puzzles me is that mediacorp has far more money now compared to last time,yet the quality of show is pathetic.
I went through youtube and watch a few old sbc serials and hey,every show is unique with a great theme song thrown in as well.Zhong kui,kopi tales,ke jia ren..the list goes on and on.The last drama metamorphosis was really really crap.They tried masking the bad acting with a few special effects..which didnt work.
Since mediacorp is celebrating 25 years old great dramas..i would say celebrate 20 years instead as the last 5 years was forgettable.How about going back to basics and produce shows which people want to watch and..plz..get people who can really act.Not some pretty face who cant act.You might say i can get better quality shows on cable,but really..i prefer the old SBC shows compared to any cable show.Afterall home is where the heart is.

they will say, if u like the old shows, either plaster urself to the tv every late nite or weekend afternoons, or subscribe mobtv!

agree.They are not putting effort in coming out with creative dramas...
always tok abt family family.Totally sicksick of it.
They have the worse dramas now 7pm and 9pm... -
with tudou, youtube, 56.com, who needs local tv?

yeah always family drama with the actors teaching us moral values.Always the same old predicatable stuff.
Even if they cant do gu zhuang shows anymore..at least do something like Mystery I,or the fann wong ghost show..or even holland V 2.It keeps use glued to the tv.

Metamorphosis - watched 1 episode..stopped watching soon after
U cant blame being a monopoly for the quality..SBC was a monopoly too.
All the reality shows for what ..when u cant even produce good dramas.I bet the star search winner will just be an extra in another lousy uncreative drama. -
Well my mum is a 24/7 housewife.
She seldom goes out, so most of the time she spend her time at home watching tv and doing some odd job.
2 years ago, i urged her to apply for starhub cable tv but she complained most of the we also not at home to watch only she watching. Too expensive.
Then when the shows on Channel 8 and Channel U gets really boring this 2 years, and shows just keep repeating and repeating for a min of 2 times, my mum decided to apply for Cable TV to enjoy more range of shows.
Newspapers also reported that Mediacorp are losing they viewerships to paid TV service. Let's see what Mediacorp will do to get back those viewerships. -

the only good shows i remember are Chu Lu and the Price of Peace.
other than that, i only watch TVB drama on channel U everyday at 10pm -
Because everything is outsourced... last time everything do in-house, now everything outsourced...
Heard that they are going to do some of the productions in-house again... because outsourcing getting expensive and producing crap work... -
actually i feel metamorphosis is Drama of this year. it has been the most discussion thread in sgF n EDMW.

And I agree, their shows are getting cornier and lacking of content, especially those SG-MY co-productions. Are they trying to get new members for MobTV by showing lousy programmes of the current while promoting their old serials? -
early days local drama was produce by HK producer and director ..
they came to teach and provide training to sbc crew.. that y u will find earlier days drama story lines and filming technique was way better .. -

The standard reli drop till terrible..I think even those B/ C listers in HK do better than many of those on Ch8 now.. -
Although the current state of mediacorp is bad, you should not just look at one show(metamorphosis) and compare. Because metamorphosis is the worst show in 2007.
