It is more fundamental than this... the people doing AI should ALSO find this very useful for their work.... that is why it will be so hot!Originally posted by deathscythe99:Robot Science?

This is a strange way to use the concept of "non-sequitur".Originally posted by mancha:This is a non-sequitur.
"hardly anyone has heard of it at the present..."
Therefore it is obscure or non-existent at present.
As for the future it is speculative, and not verifiable until the time comes.
One needs to be a soothsayer for this.

I thought that buy the time I mentioned "ant colony" it would have been obvious... I even went on to explain the "mystery" surrounding the ant colony and yet ... *sigh*Originally posted by RiverFoX:wah piangz eh...

since topic start until now i keep readin next page next page next page...
read until page 9 for 3days alr still now ans..
scientists do not believe that... they say that it is only a matter of more research...Originally posted by HyuugaNeji:Unexplained science. There are some things which science cant explain even tho it is still science.
Materialism is the idea that everything is either made only of matter or is ultimately dependent upon matter for its existence and nature.Even then you have a problem in the HPoC (Hard Problem of Consciousness).

That is an Emergent behavior what. It is under the study of Emergence.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Time for an even more obvious clue.... the HPoC... (which I mentioned in an earlier post in reply to someone that suggested the study of the sub-conscious)...
You know consciousness, right? You are conscious, aren't you? Of course you are, otherwise you would not be reading this.
When you are asleep you are semi conscious and when you are in a come, you are regarded as unconscious but alive...
How does consciousness come about?
If you are a materialist, you will say that it is "brain cells" and "brain structure".
[/quote]if you think that you can break people up into sub-atomic particles and reassemble them, you are a materialists...
Even then you have a problem in the HPoC (Hard Problem of Consciousness).
The HPoC is like this.
People tell each other things like: "It is like falling in love!"
What is that? "like falling in love", what is that? How does the human brain (conscious brain) know what "like falling in love" is?
Or people might say "It was like falling down a cliff".
Or even more obscure, "I was so mad, I saw RED."
Obviously, when someone says "I saw RED", he does not mean "the spectrum of light that hit my retina."
He is talking about the experience of RED.
The experience of falling in love, the experience of falling down from a high place, the experience of RED.
So even if you are a materialists, there is a problem trying to explain how the human brain can have experiences. How the brain can know "something it is like", as someone famously put it.
hahaha... I suddenly wondered how many people understands what I have just written... *sigh*
OK forget it, this "clue" might make finding the answer even harder... but just in case there are people interested in the HPoC, I will just post it ...
LOL, i thought the answer is not emergence. Not sure about the course name though.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:

but, what is the formal name... as in if you want to apply to study the course... what course will you be applying for?
There is no "emergence course".
While you were typing this, I asked you what the formal name of the course is... it is not "Study of Emergence", what is it?Originally posted by AugoeideS:That is an Emergent behavior what. It is under the study of Emergence.
You can't possibly tell the fact that each discrete brain cell can congregate together and give the property of consciousness.
Likewise a single air molecule on its own can't tell you that it has a property of transmitting sound, but you do "see" sound transmitted through air molecules in the atmosphere.
Study of termite or ant alone do not tell you anything about how they will behave when they are together in a group, they do not exhibit the property that they will band together and form an organized colony capable of sustaining itself with great efficiency. But we see it as an emergent property.
Thus, study of emergence lor. Isn't that what you are asking?
"An example to consider in detail is an ant colony. The queen does not give direct orders and does not tell the ants what to do. Instead, each ant reacts to stimuli in the form of chemical scent from larvae, other ants, intruders, food and build up of waste, and leaves behind a chemical trail, which, in turn, provides a stimulus to other ants. Here each ant is an autonomous unit that reacts depending only on its local environment and the genetically encoded rules for its variety of ant. Despite the lack of centralized decision making, ant colonies exhibit complex behavior and have even been able to demonstrate the ability to solve geometric problems. For example, colonies routinely find the maximum distance from all colony entrances to dispose of dead bodies."

Learned it before in my year 1 module wor, somewhat associated with Chaos theory as well.
while you put up Emergence, I was typing that long post and while you were replying to that long post, I put up the fireworks... hahaha ... go figure the coincidence...Originally posted by AugoeideS:LOL, i thought the answer is not emergence. Not sure about the course name though.

Eh, let me guess the name of the study, is call System Theory or System Sciences?
"Systems theory is the interdisciplinary study of systems in science and society. It offers frameworks to describe and analyze groups of objects, that work together to produce result."
