HK Disneyland's attendance drops
The number of people visiting Hong Kong Disneyland fell 20% in its second year of operation to more than 4 million, the Hong Kong government has said.
In its first year of operation the theme park attracted 5.2 million visitors, 400,000 short of its target.
The park is 57%-owned by the Hong Kong government and 43% by the Walt Disney.
"In the short term we did not achieve the attendance targets for which we had hoped," said the park's spokeswoman Glendy Chu.
"We recognise that we need to bolster our numbers which is our focus today."

The park has been criticised for being too small, crowded at peak-times and lacking major attractions of its sister parks in the United States, Paris and Tokyo.
Hong Kong Disneyland also faces increased competition from its local rival theme park, Ocean Park, which attracted more visitors for the same period.
The Hong Kong government has refused to provide more money to Hong Kong Disneyland until it turns around its losses.
"While recognising that the Hong Kong Disneyland is in its early start-up operating phases, the government, as the major shareholder... is not satisfied with the performance of the park," the report to Hong Kong's Legislative Council said.
The government said in its annual update on the operation of the park that it had urged the management company "to continue to improve operational efficiency and devise cost-effective marketing strategies".
Disney said in November that its profits had climbed, helped by a rise in the number of people visiting its US theme parks and more advertising on its ESPN sports television network.
Disney said its US theme parks benefited from the weak dollar as it had put off Americans from travelling abroad -

somehow i have this feeling that singapore's theme park wont go very far as well. how many times can locals visit the same theme park? also i doubt the theme park can survive on foreign tourists.

actually...
i really enjoyed HK disneyland. i thought i wouldn't enjoy it...but the fact is, i enjoyed it more than Tokyo disneyland.
i really wonder why so many ppl think Tokyo disneyland is very good. all the characters blabber in Japanese. it's so -_-". i don't like Disney characters speaking in any language other than English. and the rides were mostly very mild rides. doesn't help that the day i went to Tokyo Disneyland, Space Mountain was under renovation. *%&%*$!!!!
HK disneyland is good because the characters still speak in English. there is also Cantonese and Chinese version for some rides.
and HK disneyland staff very young and good looking leh. the Japan one...i saw a lot of...urmm...i dunno why Disneyland hire them also.
sometimes small is not necessarily bad what. at least the rides you wanna go to is a short distance away. the best rides are all in HK disneyland already...i don't know why so many ppl are complaining?!?!
really, do give HK disneyland a try. you may like it too! i had a really magical experience there!
and why are you all so pessimistic about our own theme park coming up soon?? i have faith in it! we may not go there everyday, but it's another additional place to go to when we are thinking of where to go during holidays or special occasions right! i can hardly get tired of theme parks! because theme parks are usually gone to with your loved ones, so i hardly get tired of them. going with different groups of ppl will always give you a different experience, no?
i really can't wait for our own Universal Studios to open! -
there are too few rides in HK Disney.. they just need to add a few more

If it doesn't, the loss will be to the operators. Unlike the HK Disneyland, our government is smart enough not to be the majority shareholder. We lease the land to the IR operators who had to pay for the privilege of running the resorts. They take the risk and we get the rent. Hk disney land is like pirated version of the US edition. its a once in a life time experience. i rather pay more for the better stuff.

Last time i went there, Minnie speak cantonese to me, I also dun understand, later she speaks english, but very lousy with a cantonese accent, how can they survive like that???
Anyway, Disney is not a favourite with the kids anymore, if u dun believe, i asked my neighbour kiddies, they also dun know who is Mickey or Goofy, but they know, PS2, Xbox, blog, Wii,, all latest game, Mr, bean, handphone download etc etc,...very IT savy indeed.
There is also a lack of promotion. Mickey old liao. -
Noooo....the universal studios park at florida gonna have harry potter world....why singapore dun have....huuuu....i think if sinagpore have it would take the whole of sentosa's ir...hahahaha
