    • whenever we talk abt top JCs,
HCI, RJ, NJ, TJ and VJ
are the top 5 JCs which come to our minds...

      Will this combi ever change?

      Perhaps some yrs later,
colleges which are improving or doing above average,
      like AJC, ACJC, NYJC etc.
may displace some of the JCs in the top 5
      and replace them....

      Will it ever happen??

HCI and RJ never fail to occupy
      the 1st and 2nd place....
Just what makes the students and the teachers
      so smart and capable??
Are the students and teachers dIfFeReNt
      from other JCs??

      Question

even you attend those elite school doesn't make you superior than others, when you come out to the society to work, you are back to square one. So what is your point?

      Question

      It's a vicious cycle.

Reputation begets more demand. More demand with limited supply = higher entry points = only 'smarter' students can go in = probably do better in a lvls = more reputation = whole cycle starts again. Throw in Integrated Programme (aka Thru Train) and the whole situation becomes worse.

I do not see it changing. Come on face it, if the SAP schools at primary school level has not changed for decades, what are the bets that it will change at the JC level?

I kinda agree with allentyb even though I am from one of the 'top 5' jcs.

At the outside world, your ability to mug and score in exams is no longer relevant.

Although, I must say that the sim wong hoo example is overquoted. Let's not look at specific examples (hey bill gates, although a harvard law dropout, was ranked within the top 0.1% of his batch in USA and harvard law is how machiam difficult to get into) but instead look at a broad spectrum of alumni from the 'top 5' jcs. You will be hard pressed to find a non-politician/lawyer/doctor/general and yet successful example.

      Question

That's because people (example you) like to overrate these students and give them more credit than they deserve. They are still humans afterall, just thrash them and make them eat humble pie ok?

allen chill.. dont kickstart another meaningless jc vs poly debate again.. I believe there is no need for poly to be included in this topic..

TS, its proly a similar case of the rich gets richer and de poor gets poorer kind of logic.. Meridian is coming up though..

simple, only good students go there, so the end result is everyone is competitive and remain good students. good teachers want to teach good students so they go to good schools to teach, good students want to study better so they go to good school to study, and after decades and decades it just becomes a tradition. you think one day some random crap university can replace Harvard? impossible.

erm what about mjc? i doubt ajc's better? the reason why these schools always occupy the top spots is because the students they accept have really low cut off points!

for hci, 4-6 or 7? same goes for rjc.
people are dying for a chance to get into such schools, so that leaves students with higher scores for l1r5 into other average junior colleges.

anyway there are still schools who are suppose to stay at the 20cut off point. i know yishun jc's one with that. i heard it's due to the fact that the minimum cut off for JC is 20 for l1r5, if a student got 20 he/she can at least go to a jc.

    • You guys forgot one thing, the attraction of the school.

When a smart person who can get to a good JC decides to go to a more attractive JC, that JC's entry point is lowered. Better students=> Better score => better reputation.

      What is the attraction then?
      Mostly CCA and 'School atmostphere'.

    • every school will produce its fair share of top students. its just that due to internal competition, perhaps students from the top JCs are more motivated to perform.

Nah I am not more motivated to perform.

I study for myself, not to beat others.
