you must not say "Merry Christmas to you Toooo" because "to you" is very offensive to someone that does not believe he exists...Originally posted by noahnoah:Merry Christmas to you Toooo![]()

... are you sure that there is a "you" in a "Human Plantation" ? The whole conspet behind the matrix is that man exists... but the evidence shows otherwise... you do not exist even though you identify your body as your own... and there is certainly no "real" you that exist as a soul or spirit or in a "Human Plantation"Originally posted by Zarks:Im not here.. Im not myself... Im just living in so-called Matrix.. actually my real body is in Human Plantation... THe Matrix makes me feel real in this dream.... Oh.. .. Im not here typing for sgforum.. Im actually dreaming im typing it but i know its not real even though it looks real.. Oh....
That only makes sense if "Legend" exists...Originally posted by mhcampboy:I Am Legend!
Good topic! But the quick answer to this is existentialism. Carp Diem. Orgasm. Procreation. Sin. Salvation. Meanings. Impact. Influence.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Philosophers since time immemorial has debate the existence of "Self".
From earliest ancient times, the Hindus, then the Jews, suggested that man has a soul, an Atman, a spirit that remains when the body disintegrate.
Buddhists even, cannot imagine that man is non-existing because they suggest that karma is brought forward into a future life and non-existence actualizes only on the attainment of nirvana.
The fact and reality of course is that there is totally no evidence of Spirit or Re-birth of Self.
If you consider only reality and facts (and you remove beliefs)... the fact and the evidence shows that "You", the "individual Self" does not exists.
If you do not think about it and you consider that fact that when you pinch yourself you feel pain and take that as evidence of a "self", you of course exist in that sense.
This is the same as saying that the sun moves across the sky because you see it moving across the sky with your own eyes. In the same way, your think you exist because when you pinch yourself, you fell pain.
When you look at the evidence and think about it and study it, the sun does not move across the sky even though you see it with your own eyes; just as you do not exist, just because you pinch yourself and you feel pain.
When you say "i no understand", where exactly is that "i" that no understand?Originally posted by Daisuke-kun:huh?

ah... why does man find it so difficult to live the moment and how can you find meaning in a moment?Originally posted by nehpyh:Good topic! But the quick answer to this is existentialism. Carp Diem. Orgasm. Procreation. Sin. Salvation. Meanings. Impact. Influence.
There is a self because I think.
... but the thoughts, are they "yours" or a function of neurons interacting at tremendous speed ... so the "I" that you you are so certain is you... where is the "you", when thoughts are the emergence of "neurons interacting at tremendous speed"... where is the "you" that you presume, to be directing your thoughts?Originally posted by nehpyh:There is a self because I think.
The 'you' is what philosophers call the observer. The concept of self comes from self awareness. The 'you' is made up of many different entities, most notably the simulacrum of reality our minds form through what our senses perceive which are pretty much just neurons and electrical signals in our brain. So the 'you' can just be a figment of our imagination, created in our minds.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:... but the thoughts, are they "yours" or a function of neurons interacting at tremendous speed ... so the "I" that you you are so certain is you... where is the "you", when thoughts are the emergence of "neurons interacting at tremendous speed"... where is the "you" that you presume, to be directing your thoughts?![]()
... if you want to imagine that people are "robots being controlled by monkeys inside them" then, might as well just go with the ancients and assume a "soul" or a "spirit" or with the Buddhists that there is a self that is reborn.Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:The 'you' is what philosophers call the observer. How do we know people aren't actually robots being controlled by monkeys inside them? Have any of us seen the insides of a person first hand instead of being told or shown? It's a conspiracy![]()

By the "i" are you referring to your body (that is changing all the time) or your mind, that is changing all the time) or your soul or spirit that is unchanging but where there is no evidence of?
