Msg to O lvl kids, Poly-Life... and wad lies beneath it
Even b4 taking ur actual o lvl papers... the polys will be there to start attracting u potential students to their campus with glittering messages/slogans like "Poly life is so hip, no uniform!" ... "So many frens u can make there" etc etc... They spend thousands at open houses and tell u how great campus life is as well as the prospect of their courses etc etc...
So to those who juz finished their Os... dont be fooled...
If u think Poly life is gonnabe better den sec sch and itz all fun and games... think again...
i think a few chaps here like guyver3 can back me up on this...
I went into poly thinking it was gonnabe so much better den sec sch due to the fact that i wont be nagged at so much by teachers all the time as well as going into a field of study I was more suited to (dealing with computers and programs etc) and not stuff which r irrelevant to my future like History and social studies...
How wrong i was...
~ Life there is a small 1st taste of wadz to come in working life, u r mostly on ur own, u meet backstabbers, ** kias, lecturers who cuddnt be bothered to help, tons of workload and datelines to meet...
~ u meet few good frens there (thankfully i did, or not i would have been finished)
~ somemore but hard 2 explain...
btm line... hope u kids dont get carried away with tots tat poly life is gonnabe so much better den Sec... itz not... i think JC and ITE are better in terms of social-factor... Poly... Crap!...
Thankfully im taking my last exam paper nxt monday b4 i can finally say im Poly-student-no-more

frankly speaking, i agree wif majority things he stated regarding poly life. cos i had seen many students who scored well in olvl did badly in poly.

but if u get into uni via the poly route, u get an extra advantage over your peers from JC.

People who do well in O lvl are the ones who mug damn hard. Which equals to nerd. Nerds look weird.
There is little to no group interaction in secondary school. You can just be a social outcast and do well for ur O or N level.
I am sorry but if you have a irritating mouth, behaviour or weird look, You aint gonna survive in this kinda environment. Unless you really know how to ( as they say in mandrain: zuo ren).

this thread is not meant to offend any poly peeps. but i hope it will serve as a warning to those who pin high hope in entering poly.
first year may be honeymoon as some of the modules r 'chicken-feets'. but come second year, u will face more tough competitions from FTs n those from JC who direct-entry. it will be a pressure environment n suddenly u may feel the heat among wif ur classmates.
n most students tend to be very realistic n look down on repeaters as they feel these pple might be bad influence to them.
here is if u r good in studies, everyone will worshipping u like their saviour but at the same time trying to backstab u. while u r weak in studies, no one will bother u. -

haha yea agree. The skill to socialise with ur classmate is part of poly test, you will need allies for your projects and presentations. Without them you are likely to struggle. I have friend who too active in cca and neglected studies and his classmate.
Yes, no more nagging but i can assure that you will missed the nagging by your sec teacher who can really help you. Unlike some poly lecturers who talk alot of crap and wayang which really in the end doesn't help much.
To sum up, in poly u will need learn to be more self-discipline, socialise and some other social skills. -

Totally agree to that post.
Low gpa = slack around
High gpa = chiong all the way unless you are super smart. even if you are super smart its sometimes useless. Poly is all about being hardworking. -

well, every year around this time.. comments will come out saying poly is good..jc is good..blah blah blah.. all these comments are very subjective as these comments don't apply to all..
i agree.. poly life is much harder to survive as it's near the society life aka backstabbers..f* ppl..but..that's a part of the poly life! If you survive it..good for you! If not..too bad..
I am very happy that i choose poly over jc route cause I believe that poly can adhere you much closely to the society life as compared to a jc route.. attachments, numerous projects etc etc..
The person making the comments in the edmw or whatever..must be outcast or "being the unluckly guy" in his class.. (chiong solo all the time?) well, that's too bad as poly is entirely different from o lvl i guess.. Yes, mugging is still required, but SMART Mugging is the key to differentiate a good survivor in poly from a bad one..
Basically, you need to survive as a team in poly, not to chiong solo..
PS: luckily i chose poly as we got around 5 foodcourts to choose our meals, not one in JC -
why I think poly sucks: Its for ignorant lazy fools who fail to see the big picture.
What is the big picture one may ask. It is this: The government needs for workers to work in stuff like casino etc. So it encourages more ppl to join polys by showing how 'hip and cool' poly life is. Idiots fall for the trap without figuring out that they are screwing up their life in the long term. When they finally realize their mistake its too late cos only very few of them are able to make it to university.
Morale:Choosing Poly is like having sex with a prostitute. You get short term satisfaction but probably screwed up by some STD in the long run. -

for students who opt for poly, better learn to adapt diff environment n not think 'i choose poly becos it's hip' attitude. if one has dat kinda mentality, even he scored well in olvl may not be able to survive if he slacking in poly.
cos first year of the course is important as one need to have basic foundation of the course he studying.
