There was internal bleeding, fluid on his lungs, blood in his faeces and urine which caused haemoglobin drop.[34]On January 11, 2008, it was announced that Suharto's condition worsened dramatically and that he suffered multiple organ failure.[35] Two days later, the chief of the medical team treating Suharto stated that the former President is in a "very critical condition" after almost all his organ functions failed, and that there was only a 50-50 chance that he would survive, though some Indonesians believe Suharto would not die easily because he practiced mysticism.[36] On January 17, 2008, since only machines prolong his life (amid multiple organ failure, pneumonia and sepsis), Suharto's 2-week hospitalization sparked quiet debate on end-of-life issues. 100 hospital directors, doctors and researchers took part in an end-of-life workshop in Yogyakarta city (a collaboration between Harvard Medical School and Gadjah Mada University, organized before Suharto fell ill).[37] On January 23 2008 Suharto's health worsened further, as an infection spread through his body[38], and fluctuated until it reached the lowest level of his health history on the 27th.[39] The Reuters news agency cited police - and the Associated Press cited a member of Suhatro's medical team - as saying Suhatro had died at 1:10 p.m local time on January 27, 2008.
