Perhaps his 'thanks' is only similar to yours. Your English is quite bad! Brush up or the taiwanese will mock at us because of you. Dont be a black sheep please!
i hv to say that we definitely speak better english than the taiwanese.
having said that, we have a tendency to mispronounce and 'mix' certain words e.g. those starting with 'th' versus 't' such as 'three' vs 'tree'. someone who learns phonetic will spell them differently but typical singaporeans tend to pronounce them the same. think our educators need to focus and emphasize the importance of pronunciation.

meeting people of all kinds and monkey see monkey do them is one thing....
learning from the their lessons is another.....
you can have a friend who is a drug addict and either eat drugs with him or learn from wot wrong he has done and trying to improve yourself and your understanding of the world

You are really messed up, kiddo.
The problem lies in people like you speaking poor english and you gotta buck up. Not my lack of friends (like yourself) who speak poor english! Get it? ![]()

so you agree that there are people in sg who speak lousy english.

Of course, i have said that in this thread (please see above) and have never denied that. I will never deny you of your existence. Cool.
I gathered in addition to your problem in speaking good english, you have problem in reading english too!
Originally posted by mudkipz:so you agree that there are people in sg who speak lousy english.
we do not use lousy english......
we're just too accustomed to using english in our own ways......
i do admit that its kinda irritating when some of my friends try to mimic speaking so called ang moh english......
coz i do know ang moh who can't read english well which i find very confusing.....how can a person speak english fluently and not know how to read i thought.......
becoz of this, we tend to speak brokeded english.....
the only way we can prevent this is by reminding each other, especially your friends of the errors they made.....
Its just a drama show, no point getting all worked up over it, notice that the artistes who attended aren't even popular in singapore.. get the point folks? :D
I'm sure more folks in singapore can speak english than the folks in taiwan ;)
btw, i wonder y they dun make fun of konglish? (korean-english) or japlish? (japanese-english), maybe they know they'll be outdone by both these country's netizens.. xD
I think that some of these Taiwanese or tourist that came to SG communicated with the many foreign nationals who are working in SG and thus thought they are Singaporeans. As I noticed many foreigners flooding the workforce especially in the frontline, ie service industry. And they have their own accents as well. That's y 1 of the host was asking "isnt that slang from M'sia'. Philipines etc"...
we have to admit that some singaporeans hav gd command of english, some moderate and mayb some poor, but i think majority of us hav a better command of the language than the taiwanese, not in terms of language structure of cos (singlish comes to mind), but in terms of pronunciation. if u hav watched enough taiwan "we can speak gd english" shows, be it variety or drama or watever, u will get wat i mean. so if they want to make a fool of themselves, which they hav done so often in their politics, let them be.
sidetrack... y r they not daring enough to talk abt china's command of english on the show? think abt it guys...
ok whose english gives u shivers, thai or jap? thai/viet for me
when japanese pronounce english they really are 愛〜(especially the girls)

Worse are those to apologised insincerely and retract them later. Coward.

Yes, let's learn humility. And instead of focusing on what others cant do, how about appreciating what others can do?
Talk about double standards, what comes round goes round.......
