In Donald Trump's latest book Think Big and Kick Ass, he advocated for marrying couples to enter into a prenuptial agreement first.
Would you agree on this kind of arrangement?
=====
Prenuptial agreements are not legally binding in Singapore, in view of the Women's Charter.

Would you consciously choose to get registered in another place (e.g. Las Vegas) for this reason?
A penny for your thoughts. ![]()
actually wat is prenuptial aggrement?
Prenuptial agreements usually involve monetary matters.
Since finance is such an unromantic issue to discuss, it can be advantageous for couples to come to an understanding before they wed, while they are still prudent.

A prenuptial agreement, or premarital agreement, is a contract entered into by two people prior to marriage or civil union.
The content of a prenuptial agreement can vary widely, but commonly includes provisions for the division of property should the couple divorce and any rights to spousal support during or after the dissolution of marriage.

I think it's good to have prenuptial agreement. Better than fighting like mad when they get divorced.
i think most ppl wud be too in love to be thinking of getting separated and getting a prenuptial agreement. they wudnt wan to haf a prenuptial agreement as it might hurt the other party n cud raise trust problems b/w them.
n i dun think ppl wud marry overseas bcos of tis. they wud haf to incur extra costs. n oso their family members n frens might nt haf time to make a trip to attend their wedding. unless they make it a small one. (which most ppl doesnt want).
Prenups has it's good and it's bad.
Pre-nups are only more beneficial to the person with more to lose. (more assets).
However, a pre-nups will also affect the way couple live their lives and how they handle financial issues.
i think not gd though
well , the main aim of a marriage is to satisfy each other's needs and wants. The thing that binds a couple together is the fact that there 'wouldn't' be any divorce that can arise in the future. So imo, having a prenup would indefinitely sound the 'we may divorce in the future' alarm. Marriage is not about being practical, it's about satisfying our emotional needs, not financial needs. So i'm against Pre-nups
Are pre-Nups even recognised in S'pore? According to TS, it is not.
If not recognised, then what's the point?
Well... it is always done to protect the richer partner from being the losing end to an unhappy marriage... Cos in some country they will split everything that the couple had.
Prenuptial agreements will never be legally binding in Singapore because the Government is pro-marriage/pro-birth.
Think about it, pre-nuptial agreements actually encourage a culture of divorce since couples will find that they have little to lose. And there is a chance of the father reneging on the alimony given for child/wife support should the wife really need it.
All of these are very against the government's stand on having more marriages and more births in a supportive environment.
I believe that the Women's Charter, though some might argue can easily be abused to favor the protection of women and children over the men, does lead to increased marriage stability and birth rates. That is inline with what the government wants also
SG govt should introduce prenuptial insurance ....... ![]()
TS,
Kindly note that even if you marry in USA and with a pre-nup agreement, your divorce may/will be grounded in Singapore's rules-laws regulating the marriage breakup should marriage-residency requirements be met assuming one party applies for Singapore's Jurisdiction to apply in the matter.
