    • hello, everyone, I am from mainland, I have one question to consult with everyone, in Singapore, Singaporean can speak Chinese or English or Malay in normal life, for example ,if he go shopping, he will speak which language. if you are so kind and having spare time, please particpate this question.thank you.

    • all languages are applicable & it depends on to whom you're speaking to & if that person understands..

    • i dont mind ordering simple stuff in mandarin if the service staff is PRC.

      like rochor beancurd.... i can speak mandarin to order.. easy what.. point2. yi ke! liang ke! easy what.

      but when i need a bloody laptop bag at PK computer jurong point and i want to view other colours, english please!!!!!

      Because I used to speak French when I was in Secondary school, because one of my teacher speakes French, and happen that I know moderate French. But I'm not sure about my French now. Heh! icon_lol.gif

    • depends on whom  i am speaking to. mama> hokkien. kantang friends > english cheenapoks> mandarin.

      It depends.....generally Chinese people can speak Chinese, Malay people can speak Malay, Indian can speak Tamil (one of Indian languages).....and all 3 groups can speak English...

      Shopping....or other interaction......depending on the situation.....if the persons are  both Malays, they may talk in Malay or English.........Chinese people, may talk in Chinese or English....Indian people, Tamil or English.......inter-racial, mostly English...

      Informal or semi formal, people may tend to talk in native languages...formal occasions, more in English....

      i speak both English and Mandarin, sometimes español.

      Also speak hokkien, singlish, foul language
