    • My experience?

Being from a bad enough neighbourhood school. Express students are great actors and backstabbers. Nuff said'.

I've been in Express as well as Normal.

    • ITE is changing its image. It's going to be consolidated into bigger campuses like polytechnics.

I had good friends from normal stream. But of course got the guai lan ones also!

    • Wow.. Relax man Daisuke-kun

To be honest, I am giving maths tuition to my neighbour who is in Sec 3 normal Academic. I understand from "feedback" that she couldn't understand what her teacher is talking about and its hard to find help from her friend as well as they are equally bad.

I was in express stream 13-17 years ago and help was everywhere. Cannot understand what happen now. So I went down to Popular Bookstores to do some research and below is a sample of what I found.

For Sec 1: Total Assessment Book = 29

      Express                                   = 18/29 or 62%

      Normal Academic                  = 3/29 or 10%

      Normal Technical                   = 2/29 or 6%

      Others (Just indicate Sec 1) = 7/29 or 24%

I was thinking of starting something for the normal stream. Henceforth the need for this survey. Hope that clear any misunderstanding.

As far as I am concerned, whether normal or express stream, everyone should be given equal treatment and equal support.

    • i tink ppl get tis misconception tat express are better than normal

      express are taught fast

but tat does not mean tat they learn fast.

whereas normal are taught at a slow pace.

      therefore both are equally good.

    • what normal stream offer suxs. make you go take those combine science subjs, which are kind of useless if you ever want to go jc.

all those h2 science subjs require pure science, which is not offered in normal stream.

so normal student at best can go arts stream in jc.

and anyway, i find it kinda wierd to call it "normal" stream, when like majority of the students are in express. so what should you call those express ppl? "normal"? "abnormal"?

Something like what I heard in primary school during photo taking

"The tall ones stand in front, the taller ones stand behind"

    • The express stream is far better during the old syallbus

Most people in 5NA who score 7-10 points are having problem now

but now is different due to new syallbus the N level standards is  much higher

and I think that next year O lvls for NA will be better more ppl going in poly.

If your talking about the old syallbus chances of getting to poly is not that high

as N level paper differences between the O level paper had a every huge difference.

    • i currently give tuition to sec 4 NA students in my secondary school. 1 thing i have to  say is that the difference between Na students and express students is the attitude and performance in certain core subjects such as english. What i believe is that the different streams is to group similiar people together. This to a certain extent helps prevent the "contamination" of people which as i said earlier is the difference of attitude. Therefore i believe it is unfair to say that there should be no streams. In essense the grouping is to allow teachers to teach at a pace that is most efficient and prevent express students from learning poor values from Na students such as laziness which i find is a common trait amongst most that i know.( i was in ncc so i had platoonmates that were NA and NT

This is utterly nonsensical. The express are taught fast because they haven proven themselves capalable of handling and learning at that pace through psle. This is not forgetting that though normal are taught at slower pace they are also TAUGHT more watered down subjects such as combined science. 1+1 =/= 11

    • I was from the normal stream - couldn't get  into express even though I met the average mark just because I flunk the mother tongue on a continual basis.

I am doing my PhD now and I speak 4 languages fluently . What a joke.

i have seen express students retain at sec 3 and still need 5 years to complete secondary school. so is tis wat u mean by "proven themselves capable or handling and learning at that pace through psle ?"
