Hi,
Would like to know from this forum if anyone has ever heard of shinemodels in singapore? Would be kind if anyone in this industry can share some light if this modeling agency is good?
Thanks.
I think its better to join UAN? United Artistes Network, I heard Mediacorp usually approach them for new faces.
if they approached you on the streets, then it's most probably a scam by photography companies.
Is that the reincarnation of 'Naughty By Nature'?
It's not the first time that people have been tricked into paying for a portfolio (the agency usually takes a few snaps first - at their own expense - and then you build it up with the assignments you get) and waiting in vain for assignments.
if they are sincere in signing u up, u no need pay for any portfolio or grooming sessions.
Yes... but on the other note, for those saying free portfolio, they will still have to pay back as it is deducted from their assignment.
then tt sounds like a scam too.

Agencies take a cut from the fees that are paid to the model. How else do they make money?
Yes. Absolutely. Are you a model too?

Please dont jump into conclusion of common sense as it doesnt make sense not only if you know whats my next question.
if we all know wats the next qn before u say it, then we all can win 4D, toto liao loh.
no need to be PT model liao worrrrrrrr
Never heard of this place but then again I am not in this line.
But the website looks ok.
Faces listed in their portfolio are recognizable, clientele and photos look decent, updated and recent but to pay for a portfolio with them will probably cost you some money. But hey in life, no pain no gain. Photography companies also start with one camera first. They get one from paying out of their own pockets. So don't be too quick to think it's a scam.
It's very very common to pay and get your own portfolio done by in house photographers, sign a contract first, get thrown around going for casting calls, get treated like shit before crossing your fingers about whether any job comes to you. If you are approached after a pageant or spotted after you were seen on tv, then maybe you don't have to pay?
They look mid-low end. High end agencies may be expensive but opportunities for bigger clients are there. Low end agencies may ask for a cheap portfolio fee, but all you'll be getting are bikini/street/fashion modelling sessions with CS 'photographers', or cheap events and more recently, maybe become race queen. Why bother? If you wanna try, try big. If not, don't try at all.
You can look drop dead gorgeous, get approached by good agencies on the streets etc, but without the right attitude (think they look too damn good, act stuck up, act sought after just because they're good looking even before they make it), no one will give them jobs, agents will be willing to overlook these talents quickly. Afterall, models/actors/talents are a dime a dozen scattered around the streets. What matters is impression, connections and word of mouth.
Best to speak to your model friends in this industry, find out what they think about this agency. If you think you can make it as a certain type of model, I'd say go ahead. xiao cai bu chu, da cai bu lu. Give it 2 years. Then you can pick and choose your agent, your clients, your image, what you want to do and what you don't want to do. Hehehe...
Just auntie's 2 cents worth.
There have been many incidents discussed here of scams by modelling agencies approaching pple on the streets. If you think you've got what it takes and don't believe in what forumers are saying or suspect that they are just plain jealous, then go ahead. No one is stopping you to become the next top model.
You must know clients pick their models, not the company. If you're sure of yourself, go ahead, but if you look like a carwreck then probably forget it. No offence.
