    • i've realised sgforums doesnt have a tennis forum. and seems to have a complete absence of tennis topics.

so, do any of you know about this final? there's a tl;dr, just scroll down

sigh, it's over. you know, the world cup of football? brazil vs say england? this tournament is it for tennis, only better. they both played, amazing, incredible, etc. beyond words really. they took my breath so many times im just totallly drained. it was so goddamned close, every point in that match had to be incredible played to win,

do you know virtua tennis? it's a video game that people complain about for being to unrealistic. but in this match, they just went far beyond the imagination of a video game designer. imagine that. it was fucking epic. you have no idea how incredibly difficult what they were doing. and again and again they stepped it up to nose ahead.

3 sets to two. 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7. nadal won. i was rooting for federer. fucking nadal. im absolutely crushed. i watched this as a spectator. and im shattered. i feel for you federer.

      tl;dr watch tennis more guys.

    • I'm a Federer supporter too.

But his class is just not enough to overcome Nadal's power.

      Nadal was simply irresistible.

Federer made too many mistakes, causing his own downfall.

What is happening to him this year?

    • Its sad that Federer lost. But I feel that he has been performing badly ever since his coach left. The new coach doesn't seem to be... improving fed.

    • wrong, nadal is a bloody ogre. federer is the sexy one.

wah lao so depressed.. such a epic, epic match. and federer will be rmb as the loser. i really respect how they both remain so sporting in defeat. nadal, who lost in another super tough match lasy year, i will give he was very gracious in congratulations. federer, losing this match, it's just amazing how he find the compliments for nadal.

i wonder if federer will be able to come back from this.. i would love to see him rise up again, to retire with a bang. with tsonga djokovic nadal and many more coming into tennis.. this was real crushing. but if he recovers, equals sampras's 14 slams, he will be indisputably be the greatest player to that date. (i don't really respect sampras, he had nobody challenging him. just a hippie agassi mebbe.)

    • Sampras is just too good for everyone during his time.

I just hope Federer can win at least one French Open title.

during the 1st set, federer make it seem so easy.

federer pwn him during the 1st set until the spectators cheer and trying to raise the confidence of the usa guy.

see the differences between 1st seed and 2nd seed... icon_lol.gif

and of coz 2nd set federer kelong abit la, let him play and gain some points before finishing off in the 3rd set. icon_lol.gif

    • I supported Federer in that match but unfortunately he lost. Nadal has a face that makes me wanna put a fist across leh. But then again maybe he's quite a decent fellow in reality so who knows. Anyway well done for him, was quite a match.

    • It was witnessing quite a piece of history, wasn't it? It's worth remembering rain delays on Centre Court would be a thing of the past from next year onwards with the retractable roof being available.

Two rain delays, a code violation warning, some breathtaking shots that quite simply belonged to another planet, longest match in the history of Wimbledon finals (and not to mention this will go down as arguably the greatest of them all and certainly one to tell your children and grandchildren about), coupled with record-breaking incentives (Federer bidding to be the first player in the open era to win 6 successive Wimbledons while Nadal was bidding to be the first Spaniard to win the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in the same year and the first man to do so since Borg in 1980 and only the second Spaniard to win Wimbledon) certainly made for a mouth-watering spectacle.

To be fair, I don't think there was anything separating the pair, although Nadal would probably have done the job in 3 sets had it not been for the first rain delay. That said, I thought justice was certainly done in terms of the two rain delays restoring parity with Federer gaining a massive advantage after the first one and lost his momentum - from coming back to 2-2 after being two sets down - after the second delay.

While I suppose I can only feel sorry for Federer (I'd have felt sorry for whoever the loser would have been to be honest), it certainly was a privilege to be watching probably the finest duel between what is IMO the greatest player of all-time against the finest player to have ever plied his trade on a clay court.

Perhaps, on occasions like this, Federer summed it up best when he said "it's a pity there're no draws in tennis".

swiss cool. 5 straight and a whisker away from a sixth on the trot is amazing. not likely repeated in the next 20 years....

It was a great final! Doesn't mean Federer is a loser. He's still number 1. Somebody had to win. That one person turned out to Nadal :)

    • Federer is my idol & I am totally disappointed that he lost - more so when he lost by a whisker.

Federer count behaviour is always pleasant, cool, calm & graceful whereas Nadal with his contorted & distorted looks, his bad habit of always tugging at his butt before making his serve & with his punching the air angrily when he scores a big point grates on my nerves - but what to do, he won.
