    • I have noticed that there are more and more PR in Singapore. But few convert to Singaporean. Wonder why?

      1. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a Singaporean? (pls fill up if got any more)

      Advantage
      Singapore Passport

      Disadvantage
National Service (applicable to male only)

      2. If you are a PR, would you want to convert to Singaporean? Why?

      3. If you are a new citizen, why did you convert to Singaporean?

    • why would one downgrade from a PR status to that of citizen?

Its a true fact that singapore citizenship is very cheap on the market...in fact is free.....

    • Our passport is only attractive to people from the developing world and its really to become a PR as a stepping stone towards countries like US,UK, Australia and Canada.

The developing country people are not stupid to become a citizen because they know this is not the kind of country to settle down in. They knew about the amount of penality the citizens encounter through the government policies.

always remember in life , when something comes cheap, free and easy, it is most often not of substantial value, or it may even be a scam....Even sex is is hard to get as free....

    • most often these so called immigrants have the information about life in singapore at their fingertips. Its because as opposed to someone who stayed in singapore his whole life, these people are able to see the "dirt" more obviously since they are from the outside..

      1. When you work in a company as 1st/2nd year PR, CPF contribution from your employer is lower compared to a 3rd year/Citizen.

      2. Companies would rather employ PR/Citizens rather than foreigners because they need to pay security bond, foreign workers levy, etc for foreign workers.

      3. When you become Citizen of Singapore, you cannot hold another passport of any other countries.

Haha, correct me if I'm wrong, based on my hr knowledge >_<

    • PR can earns money here and spend on their homeland, singaporeans can only earns and spend here at a high cost.

so, PR (FT) can take on lower salary to make themselve more wanted by employer whereas Singaporean cannot accept low salary cos our cost of living is high, so in the end singaporean go jobless unless they are willing to lower their salary. But there with a 7% inflation and Gst, how to lower???

actually i got a full expense scholarship into NUS, now serving my 3yr bond. got PR status upon grad

immigration always come kpkb to me every year asking me to convert to citizen. got 1 time they threaten to revoke my PR

i said thank you very much cos if they revoke my PR, I can jump my 3 yr bond. in the end they no balls to revoke my PR status

no interest to go to the west also. I am from Brunei. My government is a super welfare government, free medical, dental, education, will provide living expenses if i am unemployed + no tax at all (no income tax/GST). The problem is that Brunei University only got 1 course, training teachers so I came to Singapore to study.

I know, I know, should have gone to Europe, UK, Australia or Canada to study but my parents afraid of bad influence from western culture - eg guns, drugs, sex but the thing is that i got plenty of sex in singapore also though i find singapore females abit tiao keh - most got some form of princess mentality even though they are nothing
