    • hello!

I just graduated from Ngee Ann Poly Mass Communications and thinking of doing a degree programme right here in Singapore. But the problem is i m having a dilemma. Which is a better school? MDIS or SMa? SMa offers a double degree in either PR, Journalism and some new media thingy n it is under Murdoch Uni. While MDIS is under Oklahoma State Uni, and at the end of my course, i need to go the their US campus for a mth to take 3 modules there.

I was wondering if anyone could share their experience in either school and stuff? thanks!

    • im also considering whether to continue in mdis or to go to sma. let's just say that all australian uni are recognised in sg and ocu is the oldest uni that offers mass comm in sg. its a tough one.

    •  MDIS admin really suck. I have a pending issue of my dip cert with them.

Teacher there ok only, some good some bad

      Notes wise, avg only

      Overall MDIS is over rated

      6/10

    • the degree is recognised. that's for sure. as for the admin, they can seriously improve alot. what i feel is that mdis is expanding far too fast that they can handle. as for free time and such, i do have alot of free time, i think it all boils down to time management.

For all specified modules, standard criteria need to be met before a diploma certificate is awarded.

    • go SMa no need hesitate. i m currently doin my degree in Mass Comm wif them n i hav to say i m pretty impressed so far. there were glitches in the admin but hey, which offshore degree program has no admin problems? at least SMa rectify any problems asap, with proper comm procedures. n they have student consultants for individuals. my class had quite a no. of students who switched from MDIS due to its poor admin. IMO MDIS is super overrated bcos of their advertising and visibility in media like radio n newspapers.

in terms of recognition, i guess all overseas degrees r the same, apart from ur Harvards and Oxfords etc.

    • ya of coz sma. when i tried to enroll they left an extremely bad impression to mi for THRICE. twice i called their main campus and once i called another campus but they only gave mi bad attitude. very arrogant admin staffs. with this kinda poor attitude they hold, i honestly doubt their teaching standards. they cant even handle student admissions properly. Lousy.

    • i was from mdis and have switched over to SMa. admission wise, both are equally problematic. but at least the SMa side got back to me asap even though they can't rectify the problem at that moment.

personally, i feel that y are they so prompt is cuz they have just started this so-called international study centre at their current 'campus' and have to wayang to others.

as for the scheduling of classes, i personally feel that MDIS is a little better than SMa. if there are any make up classes for SMa, it will be on Saturdays and i do not like to burn my weekends. at least for MDIS, they will arrange it to be on a weekday. that's all for now. shall update as and when i go along.

    • FYI, Kaplan has one degree in Mass Communication too. And that's from University of Murdoch as well.

I am considering to move to Kaplan or NUS Business School after my first year at EASB. I know, I know... if I move to NUS Business School, I have to start over. But it worths it!

To me, I am also considering to go at SMU.

    • MDIS has student coordinators to manage different programmes of study. Students have been notified to retrieve information from the MDIS Blackboard, an online portal of student information containing class schedules, administrative forms and student handbook

Each coordinator is given 24 hours to respond to an incoming query. In instances when coordinators need more time to respond, a holding reply will be sent to inform the student that MDIS is looking into it. A deadline will also be given. Students may forward the query to a higher authority if response is not received by deadline.

MDIS is unable to comment on the reasons behind student withdrawals as they are wide and varied. MDIS however continues to review its programmes and work closely with University partners to enhance and fine-tune programmes to ensure relevance to the job market.

MDIS is customer-focused and students are expected to honour the relationship MDIS has with them.

Reminders to make payments may take the form of letters, emails or SMS notifications. MDIS only bars students in extreme cases where students persist to default payment.

when there was a change in my timetable, i wasnt informed at all.

as for my query, even till today, after i've graduated and gone on to take a degree, my query hasnt even been answered. if u r working for mdis, i think its time to wake clara and lourdes (my 2 coordinators before i graduated) up.

wanna know something better? 1 of my modules. 1st two lectures the lecturer didnt turn up. reason: he was hospitalised. and another cuz his dad was admitted to hospital. apparently he informed the sch (unicampus) but the HQ didnt inform the dhoby ghaut branch where i was studying at. we had to make a call to the hq ourselves to find out.
