hi TS,
the only reason why the kids have the latest, is because the parents allow it.
hence, it is not because the kids are too much, but rather the parents have lost control.
For me, if my kid ask me for laptop/handphone, I will get one that fits the requirement. Getting the lastest/expensive is calling for undue attention, and giving the kids the wrong sense of financal planning.
While some parents may choose to indulge, but I do believe they do so in the hope that these tools will benefit the children in their academic pursuit.
but did U ask why does the children needs these tools? cause most schools now, requires them to use a laptop. And most parents are both working, hence a handphone to check on the kids' safety.
So U can choose to look @ it from 20000ft or otherwise..

Nowadays, the rapid advancement of technology coupled with their affordable prices has perversed, lured, and enslaved users compared to the older days when such items were considered a luxury in the hands of the rich.
It's really scary to think about the day when technology will completely overtake the life of ordinary citizens. Bionic arms technology, heard of it? Like the arms of arnold schwaggner...

Actually, personally I feel there's a balance to everything. It depends on the individual parent and what they can provide for the kid. Using modern technology to bring out the best in your children is actually something good as some educational software are really useful, an advantage which kids in the olden times do not have.
However, having lack of control over it leads to children overemphasizing on material needs and getting bombarded in an IT frenzy at a young age.... Singaporean parents are in general more kiasu, hence putting a lot of pressure on their kids since a young age, hence making them "lose" their childhood.... alas.. I guess everything needs moderation.... understanding your children and knowing what works for them is most important.... I find this website very informative for parents.... maybe can take a look -- 30 posts required --
