What I feel about ”Charismatic” Christians

Yesterday, this friend of mine from City Harvest Suntec invited me to go to her churchÂ’s Good FridayÂ’s lunch.
I declined the offer without any hesitation at all.
I know that it is more than just a meal.
It is a trap to convert me to their cause.
I know that if I go there, they will pester me to join them and if I ever relent, I am surrendering my freedom to them for the rest of my life.
Which brings me back to this unpleasant experience I had at City Harvest Paya Lebar three years ago.
I went there out of curiosity and also to give face to this friend who invited me.
What went on inside shocked me.
The crowd was whipped into a frenzy and they spoke in tongues.
So scaryÂ…
The pastor orchestrating the mass orgy was a demagogue in the true sense of the word.
Now I understand why people like Osama bin Laden and Adolph Hitler can make people servile to their causes via their charisma
By the end of the session, I was utterly turned off, not to mentioned a bit scared.
So when my friend kept pestering me to “go in front to be Saved.” I never thought of relenting for the sake of friendship or to give him face.
My freedom is more important.
That was also why I rejected him outright when he invited me to “lunch” with his cronies.
I know that giving in to their demands would be tantamount to imprisoning myself for life.
I was so relieved that I managed to get away in the endÂ…PhewÂ…
People from “Charismatic Christian establishments” such as City Harvest-I am really pissed off by their actions.
But I want to stress that I have no quarrels whatsoever with the Christian Faith.
Why are Charismatic Christian so activist? Why can’t they be like “traditional” followers and not go around trying to proselyte people?
When did you ever see Catholic doing such things?
There were a number of occasions when I was stopped in my tracks to do a questionnaire about “the meaning of Life.” I did not know it was a ruse set up by Charismatic Christians until the last question. I thought it was some psychology survey or something.
I was utterly turned off once I found out it was That.
Another thing that makes me dislike them vehemently is that they like to belittle other religions.
They think that their religion is the best in the world (OH PLEASE,GIVE ME A BREAK!). They regard traditional Chinese religions such as Buddhism as “cheena” and anti-modernity.
I guess that is the reason why many young people joins Charismatic Christian Groups. They want to be seen as fashionable. They want to follow the “In” thing.
Which brings us to another point. I know that many people in such groups are not true believers.
They are just hoping on the bandwagon.
They join to widen their social circle.
I know a significant number of guys join such groups to get to know more pretty gals-and there are many in City Harvest.
Whither Christianity? With “followers” like these?
This is not a diatribe against the Christian Faith.
Just my two cents worth about quasi-cults like City Harvest. -

ar.. city harvest.. i was invited b4.. to go the paya lebar wwan.. but.. well.. i went.. n my experiences wasn't great too.. well.. i am a buddhist... i went for the sake of joing my friends...

Do u guys know tht City Harvest Church was once suspected to be a cult by the police and there were some investigation into it.
