After that recent turmoil surrounding Rio Ferdinand's fiasco(geez, he forgotten to take test? wtf?)... came latest news that Owen will not be match fit for England's cruncher against Turkey. Likely who will lead England's assault against the Turks is anybody's guess.
The New Paper says Rooney and Beattie. I likened this suggestion too. Beattie is clever on the knock-downs and use well on his aerial prowess. Rooney is not a out and out striker but his pace and technique can cause mayhem in the Turk's quarters. The only concern abt Rooney is his temperament but I'll say let his feet do the talking!
The other contenders are (sadly lacking any true out & out center-forwards) Heskey & Vassell. Sorely need the predatory instincts of Alan Shearer.
Who do you ppl think who should partner who?

I got a bad feeling about this match....
this morning, on Class 95, they were saying the English player might use the recent issue and injuries as an excuse for their performance if they failed to get the result.... I hope they don't do that.
Boycott the game dont look nice.... they should go out and try win the game.
Some many talents.... 1 or 2 cannot play, they can still do it one.
Got to have the right attitute lor.. but I think the players like distracted.

That's right, they have to win this one else they have to pull it off at the playoffs and that's not very wise to do.
Ferdinand has made a mistake but was punished even before the charges against him are made. So the English FA is in the wrong end too. But then again, like what X-men said, boycotting the game is not the end of the story. As professionals donning the National jersey, they should put behind the fiasco and rallied together to win this one.
With all the distractions, the omission of the two impt players & a difficult opposition... England has loads to pull this one thru. If they do so with positive results... it'll set a positive tone about their Euro campaign.

Inzaghi... Rio did not turn up for a drug test, if I'm correct, drug test is taken seriously in sport. FA have to set the right tone across lor. I don't blame the FA for not allowing Rio to play.
As a player himself with such important game coming up, he should be more responsible lor. They did give him a chance to give a good explanation.
Heskey no longer needed???

another way is to put scholes behind rooney...pack the midfield with becky, butt, gerrad n lampard..Neither the Turks wanna play for a Draw. They are out to take England down and top the grp.
Likely Eriksson will 'play safe' and deploy Heskey to partner Rooney like u mentioned.

i am sure they will play rooney and beattie (hope this xin jiao dun freeze that night). rooney most probably will drop deep to support the midfield and leave beattie to win aerial battles with that sob alpay.
main worry about england is that they are not comfortable to play for a draw (a draw suffice in istanbul). they qualified for world cup 98 and 2002 with a draw in each of their last qualifying game but damn, those two games were nervy ones!

if u ask me, i think heskey better..cos rooney is not Van Nistelrooy!!..

Yesh, likely Rooney would be deployed like what u mentioned... adds pressure to the turk's midfield and open up gaps for Beattie too.
The players should realized that a draw mentality is not good enuff. They have to go a positive results and win. They'll looked good if they win this one.

scholes in undeniably effective behind front 2 but that would mean leaving gaps in the midfield. still remembered during the qualifier where england fortuitously beat turkey 2-0, emre was redeployed from the wings to the centre of the pitch and subsequently he was the heart of all good turkish moves. leaving scholes to upfront would mean exploitation by emre.
