Just my opinion.
Singaporeans are too complacent and too ignorant to care about this. They just read and whine about the current issue at hand.(Think sars , the iraq war and the nicoll highway incident) No action will be taken by the people.
Singaporeans are ignorant. The Government claims to be opening up but look at the Speaker's Corner , always empty and furthermore , it is beside a police post. Everyone is too busy working or playing to care about the dead.
You say you are voicing out what LTA knows but from my perspective , what you are doing is telling the usual people in this forum what is going on , that's about it.
The people who can or have the power to change things are not aware of your post , hope you understand that.
Somehow , 2-3mths later , everyone will forget about the Nicoll Highway incident just as they did the Iraq war and SARS. Do you still see people talking about it? What about the girl who died when a flowerpot hanging on a HDB railing dropped on her head? Anyone even remembers this?
Hope you get what i am trying to say. The Government claims that we(the people) have more say in things now , but i frankly think it is just an illusion to let the average Singaporean think they are in control instead of the dominant party in Parliament , everyone knows what party i am talking about.

Hey...it was indeed true. LTA knew above the faltering wall beforehand. How long before i do not noe for sure. But definitely "not 10-15mins" beforehand........most likely early in the morning. Y i say so?? Cos i juz watch the news on Channelnewasia....they interviewed one of the escaped Siam Kia (Thai Worker) and he was saying tt he was instructed to do some reinforcing works to strenghtened the faltering concrete wall before the wall collapses.

I saw tt piece of vital evidence (news) at 12pm news on CNA. That particular Thai worker is skinny skinny and tall tall 1.

From the look of things, some heads are gonna roll ....
In any case, reinforced concrete walls would exhibit symptoms of failure before they give way ...this is the so-called inherent advantages of RC structure ... structural steel beams may also shows signs of deformation, so if LTA says there were little or no warning ... u can take dat as a load of BS ... -

i just want to clarify.. was there anything being said on whether these 2 cases are related? Did LTA say he was working on that specific stretch where the collapse occur?
There are thousands of problems that can go wrong at a construction site. And working on an excavation project in a marine clay area next to a river is not going to make things more optimistic. But still is it because of this exact reason that cause his depression?
Him being an LTA engineer, how much was his level of involvement in approval of the retianing/ bracing structure design? Wasn't that supposed to be the job of the Professional Engineer who put his chop on the drawings. And.. is it a design fault? or a fault at site? its to early for us to speculate rite now. -
When things go wrong i.e. collapse of sgtructures, temporary works, the finger is usually pointed at the Professional Engineer who designed and endorsed the Works... the next suspect would be the contractor and/or sub-contractor who executed the works, as they may not have adhered to details in the drawings ... next the ground conditions and surronding cicurmstances would be looked at to determine if external factors had detriorated or changed unforseeable to warrant the design of the structures inadequate ...Originally posted by Ecxentrique:The LTA engineer.. sad case that one was.. now the Nicoll highway.. another sad case

True enough.. Sooner or later, it will be a Fingers-Pointing Exercise... Public pointing at Government... Government pointing at LTA... LTA pointing at Professional Engineer... Professional Engineer pointing at Contractors... Contractors pointing at Supervisors... Supervisors pointing at Workers... Workers pointing at the Public for complaining that there are too many foreign workers in Singapore, snatching Singaporeans' Rice Bowl... Then Public pointing at Government again... Neverending.. Later the whole Singapore had to seek medical treatments for pointing too much fingers at others...

Correct me if I'm wrong here Heng, but I guess what you meant to do was to expose the atrocities of a possible LTA cover-up in this incident, based on the history behind it's construction. Also that LTA did know and had done a China, and because of that, you are here to enlighten us, yay!
