Hi people.
I've done a couple of photo-shoots with some small agencies. But the jobs're few, if not - once in a blue moon.
Recently, this newspapers advertisment( that is shown almost everyday) caught my eye. The agency is NEW EXPERIENCE @Lorong Limau.
Any1's been there?
Just that i won't want to spend huge $ for photo-shoots & getting few or zero jobs.
Or any other Professional that I may approach? Please advise/ suggest. -
if you hear modeling agency that need you to pay for portfolio , try to reject them as they are only using you to increase their port folio

Yeah... If they think that you're GOOD and really have intention of making good use of you... You won't have to be paying them.... if u are being talent-spotted and they are sincere abt signing u up, u dun have to pay for portfolio.....they will sponsor u....
if u are a freelancer, then u have to pay for the portfolio for them to put on the web or to show to clients.... -

I too started out paying for folio and ended up with no jobs. so now i'm freelancing and getting photos done myself.
agencies,if "reputable", they take u in, and u dont have to pay as they'll send u for assignments, whereby u get more pix to build your folio upon.
alternatively, actively source out fotographers and once you have a couple of "decent" looking shots, show them to the agencies.
One word of advice tho, those agencies u see advertising on papers are usually scams.
Read more magazines and check out which agencies the models are from.

Ya I agree, if the agency is reputable, then you dont have to pay for photos but usually unless you are talent spoted etc.. otherwise you will still need some photos to start. I used to make money shooting people! hahaha and I can tell you that the problem with the smaller agencies are that they often struggle with assignments and their contacts for jobs are few. So they have one of several approaches to marketing the agency... they want tons and tons of pics and hope that one of the fresh face girls will interest some client to bite. But since they seldom have any official tie up with photographers and ad agency and etc... and they have small budgets, they will often ask that the girls get their own portfolio or that they pay $ and the agency will engage a photographer to shoot them.
anyway the competition out there is really quite intense so unless you are really pretty or that you have a rather unusual or interesting look etc its hard to get into the larger agency. Oh the smaller agency usually end up getting the girls to do jobs like show openings etc instead of just shoots
So instead of paying the agency to shoot a portfolio for you of which the quality and variety you cannot really dictate, you might as well engage your own photographer but again it will be costly.
But you have to start somewhere.

yupz. i agree. competition is quite intense coz everyone is a model nowadays. clients want fresh face, normal everyday people etc. and makeup lighting photoshop can really change your look drastically.
u gotta start somewhere. know where your strengths lie. hard work is also a must.

i do know i'm not as fotogenic as some gals, but i have a height advantage and single eyelids set me apart from the typical doe eyed girls.
I'm also using modelling as a stepping stone towards my passion in acting. I take pride, knowing that i've worked hard to build my own folio, tho rat_fink think it's no big deal.
as a freelancer, i've to go out and get myself contacts and jobs, something which is time-consuming and draining if u get booted from auditions after auditions. So bennifer, you have to be prepared to face rejections. -

The model need not be visually-stunning to appeal. The background, clothes, stance, lighting and sharpness of shot also combine to make the entire picture striking, and hence beautiful.

hie... i am so interested to be a model.. have been "talent spotted" a few times by companies like UAN.. but they all require me to pay an amount of money for classes... i rejected them as i dun reallie have that amount of money.. but if i wanna be a freelancer, how do i build up my portfolio?? and who do i approach??? and if i got accepted, will i get groomed for free or do i still gotta pay for classes??

I am a freelance model and doing some talent scouting for freelance model and dancer...
Need dancers, promo gals currently.....might need a few model for a project next year for a bikini fashion show....

well, doesnt really have to be pretty to be a model....
there is alot of different type of models...
actually it is so easy to be a model nowaday..... -
I have no comments except that now I see the models ads... I think the companies must be cost cutting ... (read between the lines) anyways, loads of char bo/tah po I encounter think they look damn good also... although most are just so so..

hey anybody heard of cue models b4?? coz I got an offer to join them but not really sure if I should. well.. I do not need to pay any $$ for the courses as they will sponsor it but I most likely have to pay to take photos. any advice??
