• I appeal before for this kind of summon. I just told them that the lighting is very dim at the carpark area. The red colour is faded, therefore cannot see properly whether it is white lot or red lot.

I also quoted that I have no previous offences for the past 1 year and that I buy season parking at my place through GIRO. I also quoted my coupon number which I teared one hour, sincerely because I had thought it was a white lot.

It took me only half an hour to draft up an email which I sent to HDB.

They replied me within 2 working days through email. My $50 was waived. Not that difficult, depends on how you debate it.

I remembered this beach is always well maintained with cleaners coming religiously to clear the rubbish. Seems like they have not been doing any cleaning for at least weeks. Wonder what the reason could be

He received a call from Cycle & Carriage that there is NOTHING WRONG with his engine. He was like... wtf....

Mine sleeps while i drive. Makes long personal phonecalls. Extremely rude if I make mistakes.

I would have found another one, if not for the fact that he's really good at teaching and has many tips and tricks.

    • Hi,

I bought my car in May 04 when COE was at the high end of 27K. If i decided to convert it to an off peak car, do I get some of my COE back in cash, as in pro rated?

Or is it going to be added to my PARF or ARF or watever. These terms are really confusing me.

      Stanley.

    • Lol I not going to tell you so much lah..... then you know everything liao... then wats the fun siah

Dun worry , there will be plenty of time to know a lot of things about SCDF when you are going through your 9 month course.

I think rather then keeping yourself preoccupied with so many questions so far ahead, why not concentrate on your task at hand: going through your 9 month course and going to the frontline (fire station) after that.

Your perceptions to what you want to do after your station stint would be different by then. Which is why whatever I tell you now beyond your station stint would be irrelevant.

      Have fun my friend.

I can see that the job is really meaningful.

i've already gone through the selection and passd the interview. now waiting for job preview and contract. just wanna understand the job and responsibilities more before I put down my signature. And hey, thanks for your help =)

another qn.. im very keen on hazmat. Is selection for hazmat offrs tough? how does the manpower dept decide if you're suited for this specialization?

      Hi pandemonium,

I am glad to help np.

I am a regular officer now working at SCDF HQ, though it is inconvenient to reveal my name. You are correct, it is common for cadets to fall prey to the heat and puke or faint because they are not used to it at the beginning.

when you pass out from BOC (Basic Officer's Course), you will be sent to the frontline ( a fire station ) for about 1-2 years before you are posted elsewhere.

Haha, I think you asked the right person, I was a Hazmat officer also ;p. People with biological/ chemical background would be given priority in selection. I felt that scholars would also be given priority. The 1 month course itself is not tough, but there are a lot more things to learn.

Being a Hazmat officer means you get posted to a Hazmat station. It is not easy as you have to lead an additional 14-15 men (Hazmat ) as compared to normal fire stations. In terms of logistics, manpower, training, there are much more things to do. However you get $200 more allowance as compared to your fellow colleagues in normal fire stations.

I hope it helps. BOC is tough but very fun. Once again, station life can be a life changing experience.

I'm doing staff work now.. yawnz... missed the firecalls.... zz

    • Hi,

This course is not the faint hearted. It is not just a test of your physical endurance. It is a test of your heat endurance and mental endurance. Think about wearing thick fire jacket and legging under the hot sun, and fighting fire. In addition of your heavy clothing (about 10kg), you are also carrying or operating heavy equipment.

This course trains you to be a leader in such adverse conditions. To be able to stay focus and lead in such conditions will stand you out as a fire officer.

You will be trained in all aspects of fire fighting, road traffic accidents, height rescue (limited), equipment handling, fire investigation, fire safety in buildings and more.

My 2 years as a rota commander in a fire station is really challenging. U get to see aspects of life that ordinary officer workers rarely see. People committing suicide, extracting trapped drivers from cars, breaking into residential units where there is heavy smoke coming out, fighting forest fires, just to name a few. The working hours are long and unpredictable but the sense of satisfaction is great, especially if u save a life.

      1. Im female and am mentally prepared for the tough training. Just wanna ask if the training regime and requirements (like for SOC etc) would be exactly the same as that of the guys'? (coz i think for OCS training girls have to skip 3 stations in SOC)

U only do about half of the obstacles. The most difficult one for the ladies is the rope. They are always stuck there as they lack the strength to pull themselves up. Some of them have height phobia and they are stuck at the top of jacobs ladder. But at the end of the course, every single lady in my batch passed SOC with flying colours. They only wear No. 4.

      2. How is a typical training day like? E.g. what time to wake up and when's lights-out at night? Is it more physical training stuffs in the morning and more lectures in the afternoons and stuff like that? how often do you have admin time/OTOT per day/week?

wake up at 530am. 545am is 5 BX. Lights out normally by 11pm-12pm. Depending on the module being conducted and the course admin, training sessions can vary.

      3. How do you deal with housekeeping chores? Like cleaning bunks/toilets/doing laundry. And how many sets of no.4 do you get?

Every morning must do area cleaning. The ladies have their own washing machines and toilets. 4 sets of No. 4 will be issued.

      4. Eh the sensitive money issues.. is there actually bonues given during the OCT period? And after 12 months, how much is the salary increment?

Sorry no bonuses during OCT period. Salary increment depends on your performance. I am a guy , so not very sure for a lady. My pay increment per year is about 300.

Um think that's all. thanks ya =)

I read in another post that the chances of becoming and SCDF officer during NSF is rare if posted to BRTC and the chances of becoming an officer is higher from BMT?

Does this apply to NCO's as well,if kena BRTC, stuck as man for the rest of NS?

Only regulars can be Hazmat. NSF officers are normally routed to BRTC or FFTW. They rarely go station unless there is a shortage of regulars.

Just recently, we all heard on the news how one scdf personal die in another rhino acciddent. Was wondering, what the hell are those driver doing?

Does this mean that the drivers are not fully train to handle that vehicle? If take the rhino in comparison to the SAF LSV(Light Strike Vehicle), I dun see any reports of it having accident on the public road(except maybe during training exercise in out field)

Wonder what is on the driver's mind.

If you are fully trained to handle that vehicle, does it mean that you will NOT get involved into an accident? Did you actually tried to find out whose fault is it before shooting it off.

I can see that you are concerned about the military/civil service traffic accidents, which contribute probably about 5-10% of all traffic accidents. From your words, u must be thinking that the other 95% of accidents caused by the general public are also not fully trained, although they passed their driving test. " What the hell are they doing, and what is on their mind also? ". Maybe you are shooting urself in the foot by saying this?

Each traffic accident is unique and should be treated independently , rather then grouping them up and making sweeping statements.

As a result our commissioner has taken on extreme measures. In future, all SCDF vehicles are to follow traffic lights irregardless of the nature of the call , or the traffic flow.

which means to say, in the middle of the night when there are no vehicles at all, we must still come to a stop when the red lights are on.

Under the withdrawal funds option, my local bank has been listed. Has anyone withdraw via this option and generally how long does it take? How much does the bank eg. POSB charge per transaction?

Under the add funds option, the only option i have is

"""Transfer Funds From a Bank Account in the United States """""

LIke this how to add funds to my paypal using my debit card or my local bank?

BTW, mine is a business account.

I have experiences with taxi drivers and big saloon cars not wanting to give way. Of course they have the right of way as it is green light for them.

Just think about CD fire engines and rhinos responding for calls that could result in lives lost in a matter of minutes.

So the moral of the story is, give way.

We have mounted cameras and will not hesitate to report errant drivers to TP , who refused to give way to us.

    • Sometimes when responding to Emergency calls, we may need to overtake

some red traffic lights. We are saving lives, every min is crucial. Sometimes if

the despatch sheet says " Child trapped in burning flat " , we are not going to

wait at the traffic light! We will beat the traffic light with our siren and beacon

      lights on.

However we also need to take a lookout for any incoming vehicles who

actually have the right of way as it is green light for them. Some will slow

down and give way, some refuse to give way and sped pass. Mostly taxis

      and big saloon cars.

It is regretful such an accident has happened.

    • For NSF officers, they would normally be posted to BRTC and CDA to train the recruits.

Regulars would be posted to Fire station to become Rota Commanders. I am one at the moment Cool

However if there is a shortage of rota commanders, some NSF officers would be sent to fire station.

Fire station life is much more interesting than BRTC and CDA, but the workload is also much more.

Just enjoy ur BOC yah. U must be 36th BOC if I am not wrong. Ur CA

CPT Goh Boon Han was my fellow batch mate.

    • I have attended one Road Traffic Accident where this taxi hit a lorry at a junction. The taxi had the right of way as it was green light. The lorry driver hit and run , but the driver was caught a few hours later. It turned out to be a Bangladesh Worker....

So sometimes there are worse drivers out there.... Confused
