Seems that citizens of the west are still asking where Singapore is after all these damn years. I tot F1 alrdy put us on the world map? We reached first world in 1 generation?? We are known to have bright mathematicians in our elementary schools? USA uses our textbooks?? Russia wants to model after us??
We are not as famous as the papers make us out to be, it seems.

I do agree that we shd live and let live. If the chinaman or woman asks u in chinese, so be it. If we are chinese, then graciously reply in chinese. But if u speak english to her and she gives the wtf look, lodge a complaint by all means. All the more if she speaks chinese to a malay or indian.
But i do not agree with purposely speaking ang mo to make it difficult for them. Singapore is not inherently just an english speaking society....chinese is our roots too. Most are out to make a living, whether they truly have a passion for service or not. Must see their face, and their attitude too.

Agreed. Others who cant understand chinese will find this sort of dining environment a big turn off.

yesterday experienced a chinese lady helper at a kopi tiam who also didn't understand orders in english.
this customer asked for 7-Up, but the woman had no idea what it was. so the customer got fed up and ordered Coke Lite, but end up he was given Coke. :/
but at least the helper in this case was quite apologetic. after tt, when an indian guy asked for chinese tea and she din understand, she asked another customer to help her translate.
the customer shd have said "qi shang". lolsigh these helpers really have a hard time too....needing translation for everything.

Actually TKL is nt really charismatic in my opinion. He may be a diligent politician but whether he can really garner support is a big Qn Mark. Look at his petition of 100,000 signatures, there are nt even a thousand after these few days.
Many of us, incl. me would love to see make some noise in parliament or ask for keys to the treasury keke. Can he? Let's wait n see.

Just some thoughts:
TKL looks like a decent guy, passionate to help the people. However, I also feel he has an axe to grind with PAP. 30 years with NTUC and after he left, criticised them. That wouldn't be happening if it was an amicable parting of ways, right?
Perhaps he also feels that the PAP is not listening enough to the voice of the people.
Anyway, the PAP are watching him.....waiting for his first stumble. His crowds are dwindling at Hong Lim by the saturdays. Last evening was only 200. People are losing faith if nothing happens. He has also engaged lawyers to help look thru the banks' sale prospectus and seeking the advice of a Queen's Counsel.
If HK finally compensates the investors, Singapore will do the same. Banks, MPs and MAS are just sitting by first. If TKL does well, they will laud him and jump on the bandwagon of popular support. If TKL's efforts are in vain and investors lose faith, then the PAP will vilify him.
Mark these words.

Read in ST that so many hostages died in the line of fire. One commando was quoted as saying it was pitch dark inside and they just fired at whatever enemy fire they saw. What if there was hostage human shield in front of the terrorist?
Why no negotiation in the first place?? These militants were fighting for their Kashmiri bros and sis, they want the Indian Army to stop harassing them...no room for negotiation at all?
And also all 5 Israeli hostages died when their building were stormed by commandos.
Hey these Indians, not very smart are they??
