      Section B - 14/20 (70%)

      Section C - 14/60 (23%)

Section A & B results show that her basic knowledge for Mathematics is quite good.

The problem lies in the method of teaching! A simple formula for triangle:

      1/2 x base x height

      is taught as

      Step 1: base x height

Step 2: take the answer divide by 2

      Why complicant a simple formula?

How many parents who had learnt Algebra in secondary level can answer the question taught in primary level using bars comparison?

I'm wondering how much is taught in the classroom? Only the basic? And they expect a 10 - 12 year old to apply in a complicated and 'challenging' problems!

      ENGLISH

English is another dumb-found.  I still remembered my time, we learnt new words and their meanings.  We construct sentences with them.  We had spelling and dictation.  We also learnt cursive writing.

From P1 - P4, she still had spelling once a week. But P5 spelling was abolished after a few months.  She never have to do new words nor sentences construction.  No cursive writing lession!

      Really wondering what was taught!

      SCIENCE

Look at the text book.  They look very simple.  Not one guidebook covers everything, you have to buy a few.

Questions on experiments.  In the first place, were these children shown or done the experiments?  Do you think enough is done to make them understand?

      Ridiculous! What is holistic teaching?

HOLISTIC : treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease.

      Main Entry:
      ho·lis·tic
      Pronunciation:
      \hō-ˈlis-tik\
      Function:
      adjective
      Date: 1926
1 : of or relating to holism 2 : relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts <holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body> <holistic ecology views humans and the environment as a single system>

Hm. It took me 9years to finally realize why we need problem sums in primary school...that is after I have to start teaching my sister her p5 and p6 maths. Like your child, she also don't like problem  sums. But these problem sums are the most crucial section whereby a student uses his/her understanding of whatever that he/she has learnt for the term/semester and put into solving the scenerio placed. As for the simple formula of area of a triangle, I wouldn't say it's making it complicated...more like the way you see it. If one can't understand 1/2xBxH, then the other method (BxH)/2 would be just another alternative for one to understand. It's just like 3+4=7 and 4+3=7 yeah?

I think the abolishment of cursive writing is because it's no longer important. And what's more important to note is that every change that the MOE system goes through, in my opinion, is because of the O levels standards. They want to start from the foundation of students and then as they move on the education ladder, there won't be too much adjustment and adaption.  Do you really think cursive writing is necessary?

    • Actually, as a student after seeing this 'foundation' thingy, I think this filtering of the good, the bad, and the lazy cannot be avoided. Simply because...

All of us are different and we have different levels of learning.

Why not turn this foundation thingy around and see to it that it's a matched level for your child to adapt to learning to the fullest? And from there make full use of all the teachings to do her best in PSLE and not repeat the same mistake in P5.

Ultimately, EM3/foundation and all those streaming are merely just names. If your learning level is just there, then only your child can change her own learning level.

    • i read in the chinese newspapers that lots of ants were seen leaving the area of shenzhen...together with dragonflies flying around(like locusts)...

something similar also happened in Szechuan...where lots of  rats were seen leaving the area...after that the earthquake happened...or something like that...

who knows his prediction might be true...

One of the 10 commandments Moses received from God says :"Thou shalt not kill".

Yet, in Exodus, God supposedly killed the first born child of every Egyptian to force them to release the Jews (Exodus 11:4-6). After parting the Red Sea to let the Jews pass, God supposedly closed it up and drowned all the Egyptians. Isn't that killing? Or is God's law given to Moses mean: "Thou shalt not kill Isrealites but thou can kill non-Jews?" In Exodus 15, Moses even composed a song to celebrate this mass murder. Isn't our God a univeral God - does he love the Egyptians too? Isn't he their God too?

In the book of Numbers chapter 31, God was said to have commanded Moses to destroy the Midianites. And the Isrealites killed every men, but they spared the women. But Moses seemed unhappy and said: " 'Have you allowed all the women to live?' he asked them.  'They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people.  Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,  but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man." (Numbers 31: 15-18)

Do not Eat Food Offerd to Idols - Who Said?Who Said?

Some Christians refuse to eat food offered to in ancestor worship or to idols.

But Jesus said: "....Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' " (Mark 7:14-15)

hmm...i see alot of confusion with the bible and modern living... actually i think that all these ironic comparisions, eg. thou shalt not kill, yet bible say kill all the men...etc. it's all human nature to see that. But as most christians would know, the bible is not just any other book that one reads. When a christian spends time reading the bible, he/she prays and ask God about what He is trying to say that applies into the person's life. Maybe if you happen to read on 'Thou shalt not kill', maybe God wants to remind you that you killed an innocent ant on purpose while walking down the pavement?

You see for the unclean verse...the bible also did not mentioned that the "thing" that goes into a man is food. It could be said as the words that you use and words that come out of your mouth; eg. vulgarities, insensitive words, etc that makes one "unclean".

    • Amendments to svc 83

usual route up till the junction at sengkang square...instead of turning, extend to...

      • sengkang east ave
      • Punggol Rd
      • Sengkang East way
      • Sengkang Int
      • Opposite direction of those
      • back to original loop in punggol

reason for this change: serves as a feeder going between most of sengkang and punggol instead of half of sengkang only.

btw..there are really good route suggestions...it's a pity they don't get implemented?
