    • Well u might be true, im just expanding it. Honestly i think fistfights only belong in the ring or before fists start flying both parties parley first and both agree on the terms of conditions of the fight like of days gone by when i was in school. When it comes to situations where its fluid and spontaneous, i think the main objective of the fight will decide how the fight is to be conducted in. And no i dont hate angmohs, i have some of them in my family and they are not representative of the white trash and i love them very much. But im espousing the golden rule of ‘When in Rome, do like what the Romans do’.

    • The age of chivalry is over. It is now the age of ‘do anything it takes to win’. What is honour…honour is used by the politicians to recruit more soldiers to carry on their agendas be it right or wrong. If the US is so honourable it wouldnt have used its overwhelming military might to crush its opponents and blame the so called ‘insurgents’ of terrorism or dirty tactics. What do u expect from city boys or village boys with AKs. They have to devise ways and strategies to defeat a much larger and well equipped opponent. If they stick by the rules of playing fair, honour, chivalry lol it would be a massacre..

    • Well when i was in bmt few years back, we were doing live firing and one of my section mates rifle went off by itself while we were at the 50 m is it? the one after the run down but before the standing hip position. the round hit the ground near our 2IC feet. the 2IC jumped up and screamed ‘wat the fuck’.I thought ‘hong kan liao’. but after that nothing happened cos my section mate didnt even touch the trigger. everyone agar agar the chamber too hot so discharge the bullet. so no charges were levelled. never even kena fark the poor guy. live firing continued as normal after that.

    • Yeap jmf is still ard too..only now lower profile than before. apparently sultan of the johor is like the colonel in chief of GGK. so a lot of jmf personnel are ex GGK. Think hes commando crazy or something. Furthermore all camps or bases for the GGK are in mersing, johor, info can find from wiki. Furthermore side tracking a bit, the allowance that the johor royal family is getting from the federal govt in kl is peanuts compared to their own businesses etc. The caltex that we all usually fill up right before going back hm to singapore is owned by the johor crown prince, and thats not the only one he owns. They are like the royal family of britain, owning lots of land and businesses on top of their yearly allowance from the govt.

    • maybe if we are really serious abt lpd/lhd in the future and the costs including maintenance, upgrading, weaponizing, operating costs etc are cheaper than getting a new ship imho we could get the flagship of the thai navy off their hands as its a sorta ‘berth’ queen rite? maybe we could diplomatically win a strategic coup after purchasing the Chakri Nauebet in the sense that permanent all year ard lease of their airbase for training and etc rather than the agreement now which states we are entitled to use the airbase for some period of days in a year. This would really test our negotiation skills so that we can get good price and good defence agreement.Advantages would be if we managed to lease the airbase year round, we could station a squadron of vipers and a squadron of eagles under the pretense of training but they would be our backup or alternative point of attack if our mainland airbases are compromised etc. Another advantage of getting the Chakri Nareubet would be having another point of attack as we could station the naval versions of the f35 be it STOL or VTOL maybe at least a squadron? and maybe we could configure it to hold a sizable contingent of our own versions of marines and their heavy equipment. Im very confident in our SAF’s and ST’s capability to ‘zhnng’ the Chakri Nareubet. Just that the costs must be affordable and realistic thats all. With the right plan of maintenance and upgrading these sort of ships can last decades. We also have a tendency of purchasing 2nd hand items and modifying it well, learning our tradecraft well and making it last operationally like our mbt’s, subs, sm1 etc. With the lessons learn from operating the Chakri Naruebet we could operate better new lpd/lhd in more decades to come should we decide to indigenously build our own or purchase off the shelf ones.I can already envision changing the name of the Chakri Naruebet to RSS Singapura as singapore is an island nation and the RSS Singapura is also a floating island in the middle of the sea.The ideas are views above are all from an amateur. Please dont be shy in dissecting my ideas as the purpose of this forum is to inform the uninformed and to share and debate ideas.Cheers and have a good day.

    • think the brits rifle went thru a major revamped rite on the design or something before costing tens of millions pounds for all the rifles after lots of defects were reported by servicemen.

    • actually the number of falcons which were given to rtaf would have nicely equipped a black knights team but then the strategic advantage of training there supersedes equipping an aerial acrobatics team imho.

Most former colonial masters like England and Spain also had "Legions" within their armed forces made up just like the FFL. The sole purpose of these Legions is to go far away places and fight the colonial master's dirty wars without asking questions.

They are like the Gurkhas in British or Singapore service. They swear loyalty to the country that employs them. They are not freelancers able to do anything for anyone they please.

Spain still has a Spanish Legion, which no longer take foreigners. British Legion - don't know what it was called - was disbanded long ago and left only the modern day Gurkhas. And I last heard they will be disbanded or about to be.

So while we are splitting hairs, the real mercs are those with Blackwater or Mad Mike Horace who don't belng to any army or country but private interests.

      For example:
If I own a oil drilling company and I hire a 2 companies of armed men to guard and patrol the 100km of oil pipelines say, through Indian territories in the Amazon, and they are to do everything without questions to protect the pipeline... then you can call these people mercs.

The English had a foreign legion made up of german soldiers or nationals from french-occupied german territories during the Napoleonic Wars. These were called the KGL ( King's German Legion ). They swore loyalty to the English Crown but they are not able to operate or set foot in England due to their mandate. They had some of the best cavalry troops during the wars.
