oh ok. I understand now, I thought you meant you were told to kiwi your boot bottoms at camp.......that would be a joke! But coming in to Australia....yes. Any dirt or soil on shoes is considered dangerous. We have a lot of endangered species, and we like to try and keep out any foreign bugs or soils incase of disease or inpurity's. It's the same as bringing wooden products into the country, you can't bring them unless you want to pay to have them sprayed for dideases. When I returned form Singapore last year I had to wash my shoes before I left Singapore both times, and show them to Australian Customs officers on arrival. It's better to be safe than to ruin our environment, although it is mostly european countires that we are worried about, things such as foot and mouth disease from Engalnd and Wales.

hahahaha...you guys have some access to the internet....there are computers which you are able to use with the internet, near the canteen and both camps.as for washing machines,i believe you guys also have access to drop your washing at our stores rooms to be sent into town for dry cleaning.....?????you will have to ask your officers about that. we are not allowed to waste water at camp, even we are not allowed to use a washing machine unless we really need it,we have to take all our washing with us on our off day once a week.as i was saying, with internet you guys are already spolied enough.you cant expect luxury's in the middle of the bush(or jungle as you call it). we're out there to work and for you guys to train, not to be pampered.

I think, as an almost 21 year old woman myself, that your gf is starting to miss you just that little bit too much when you go away for work. She is obviously getting jealous of your work, which is understandable. However, even though she is only 21, she should be mature minded enough to understand that what you do with your career now will affect how your future together is. You need to talk to her, seriously, and tell her you want her just to sit quietly and listen to you while you explain your positon and your feelings about her tantrums (that's what they are). Once you have fully explained everything to her, without getting angry, or seeming frustrated, then give her the chance to explain to you why she is like this, while you sit quietly and listen to everything she has to say. Once you have noth fully explained yourselves.then it will be easier for you both to decide what you need to do, as you will both know each others honest feelings.

I hope I've helped.

One small observation... when Judy and her gang were around, there were more food variety. The last 3 years when the current contractor took over the canteen, not much variety.

I have extended family who are from Rangoon, they are on lock down, they are allowed only to do shopping under their blocks, then staright back inside their flats. It is very scary. Australians have been told not to travel to Myanmar for the next 6 months, and the American Government has threatened to intervene if things get worse. Our Australian news also reports that 3 monks have been bashed and shot to death in the streets, with police and the army using tear gas, grenades and brute force during PEACEFUL marches. What is wrong with our world??? I am ashamed to be a part of the human race, look at us....we kill each other in the streets....killing religious people for standing up for what they believe in! It's not right!

No, I wasn't there in 2002....I've been there 2005, 2006 and now 2007. 2005 I was at Camp Growl Canteen and Kitchen, 2006 I was at Sam Hill North Camp Kitchen, this Year I am at Sam Hill North Kitchen again.
Well if you will be there from 21st october(3 days before my 21st birthday)...please come to kitchen and say hi!!! My friends and I would be happy to meet you!
It's always good for you guys to have someone to talk to other than
your army mates over here...it can be a bit strange being so far
away from home, and it's not the easiest of conditions at Shoal
Water Bay. Drink plenty of water...but not too much COLD water, as
it can upset your stomach in the heat and make you sick. Sometimes
water straight from the specified drinking taps is best in the
heat. We have lots of rules out there and you guys need to try to
obide by them, as like wasting water....all the water we have at
the camps is from water tanks, that has to be bought in by
trucks....so it's very precious.....last year a company of troops
were wasting water in their showers and the rest of the camp ran
out of water, so ofcourse, the kitchen could not cook, or clean the
dishes, so meals were delayed until we could get another water
truck out......that takes up to 3-4 hours......needless to say, the
troops that wasted the water were disliked by everyone in camp, and
their officers made them wait until last to be served their meals.
The next time they showered their was no more water wastage.
