Against WHAT birds would the newly purchased AA be deployed against?
Where is the nearest airfield with a credible strike airforce based?
No immediate threats via air = no need for comprehensive AD umbrella.
Aussies are smart and know where to spend their money.
Buy new AD system to shoot at flying penguins is it.

No lar not bells and whistles. I'm not fighter pilot so i dont what to describe things that happens to the screen/radar/whatevernot due to EW.

With all the discussion here, I am still NOT convinced that Formidable is able to handle saturated attacks by AShMs (both supersonic ones and transonic ones) without a dedicated CIWS as the last resort. 5 or more missiles targetting a single formidable, I think at least 1 may get through.
As much as I would like to believe the new guided shell fired from 76 OTO gun is a good anti-missile weapon, I still strongly believe in a wall of lead principle. Otherwise, why would the USN, RoKN and JSDF Navy continue to employ Phalanx?
I can accept that SeaRAM as a replacement of Phalanx, but at the current state of the Formidable weaponary, I just find that it is a little short and last ditch hit-to-kill measures in place.
Only thing i want to know is, under what kind of scenario, will you be able to successfully target 5 missiles on a formidable without getting yourself kicked in the face with Aster / Harpoon/ Whitehead first.

What i dont like about the multi round grenade launcher is that unless you are willing to log around 3 rounds everywhere you go, there is no difference(minus no casing to unload). Which preparation, you have the time to load in 3 rounds and that's the advantage.
I highly suspect that we have a thermobaric type weapon, It's the enhanced blast 40mm grenade. ST just renames it to avoid controversies.

When he said DEPTH, he meant DEPTH. The enemy's depth.
He doesnt mean deep.
It's a military term for use when you are "higher up" when you hold a command position.
I.E. not you.
It's a statement of fact.
The enemy's depth is the "rear of the enemy." Where the generals are, where their artillery guns are, where their logistics are.
It just means that we can reach the enemy where he thinks is a "safe" place.
Cutting off the snake's head, removing the tiger's teeth and kicking a giant's leg from under him.
Edit: i'm emo today.

We dont own centurions. Period.
On the other hand, we have those lot of dust free prestine condition Gundams. So why bother with something irrelevant and ask about Gundams instead?
? Naturally you will be foolish to even ask how our Gundams and (yes! gasp!) Mechwarriors will perform if we send them to war? They will obliterate everything and anything in their path of course.

Maybe you are a spy? You make such dumb posts to lower our guard(and intelligence) so that we can spew out secrets and yak?
Ha. Espionage is not something that occurs on occasion. It's happening everyday, all the time ceaselessly, rain or shine from people near AND far.
You should know better when you are doing Gduty... Oh wait..i forgot.

Indeed, technology has slightly even the odds of the aggressor by allow them to have more consistent first strikes. The problem is to not fight "yesterday's war". Surely while two conflicts are similar, they are never the same.
Air superiority is a requirement but the ground battles decide the outcome of the war. Often, we learn from mistakes because someone has paid the price for our lesson. The slew of technologies being brought forth over the past few years have mostly been a result of the war in Iraq - urban warfare, US + Israel now have a huge store of knowledge to learn from the many years which they face these problems of insurgents hiding amongst civilian in build up areas.
*cough* I ramble to much. Without much personal experience, i doubt the practicality of UAVs should the environment be that of thick vegetation (compared to desert/urban) Everyone knows that noise travels very far in the forest which can be masked in the daily urban setting. Radios dont work as well, rain, mud hides warning lines, pits, mines and booby traps( those who build them dont even have to be in the area once these are set up); Comparable but lower end equipment procured in larger numbers, including their own UAVs, sensors and C2/3/4i.
That's the difficulty of the problems faced to keep up the edge over would be opponents in the region. I suppose this is the battlefield which we face in the 21st century.

ST, dont overdo it... you are pasting peektures like LN does.. Icky man but good job.
Dont worry so much of our PBs, one boat down and the checkbook will open for typhoons to be installed.
The idea of terriorists werent designed as such when the PBs were used.
Pretty sure we can look forward to a fleet renewal (oh the horror!) during the next naval splurge to buy modern PBs that are more suitable for today's threats. We might even just build our own. Worst come to worst build enlarged protectors and mount a chaingun on it with all the accompanying bells and whistles.
