I would say no... but then again, this guys are just looking for a place to stay during their stay in Singapore. these guys are probably already earning peanuts compared to many locals, but are discriminated by us nonetheless. Guess at the end of the day, they need a space of their own too. yeap, I sound contradicting, feel sorta divided on this view as well. I

Not necessary. If your conclusion of HK police doing more foot patrol than vehicle patrol is drawn from hk serial dramas or movies, in Sg heartlanders also shown the actors doing a lot of foot patrol. We can't draw conclusions from movies. Those are fictions after all. Moreover, there aren't a lot of sg officers assigned to per precinct and each pair of officers cover a big area. Imagine if you are patrolling at Newton, and you get dispatched to a case at say Orchard Towers. You try walking to the scene... Vehicle patrol covers a much larger area and faster compared to foot patrol. Gotta admit that, and practical too.

Yeap, seen things like that b4. Can agree with you. Public perception and facts are not the same.Maybe, just maybe. U can't say that for sure too unless you had first hand experience, right...
Experienced public expecting police to do certain things, when in fact it's not the police business at all. Ca you imagine ppl complaining to police about ppl parking in HDB disabled lots, or upstairs neighbour's toilet floor leaking water into the house below? Better still, recently came back from reservist:
Complained that doctor never give certain medication when he visit doctor and called police to scene... Simply nonsense leh...

stop calling your idol a martyr or comparing him with those real martyrs. He is far from them.
Plus, the more I read, the more delusional I think u may be. You never truly answered qns pose to you by the other forumers, had you.
I seriously doubt CSJ is what caused the govt to have to adopt or put up certain new measures.
And stop calling ppl ass-licking dogs, or wishing for the death of ppl. That's outright insulting. Thought this forum is all about open discussion instead of trading insults.

come to think of it, the guy selling rojak probably makes more money than chee selling books.
Well, unless CSJ is another CS Lewis or Tolkien. Or else can't imagine him getting rich by selling books. Ha...Anyway, sometimes hawkers can be the richest people around.... maybe richer than a lot of salaried workers.
Can't imagine where he gets the money for daily expenses and all that, plus with hundres of thousands of debts to clear.

CSJ is far from the two which you quoted!
Both Gandhi and Mandela had the support of the people they are fighting for. Mandela, the blacks of South Africa, and Gandhi, the Indians. Who does CSJ have? pathetic. To compare the him with Mandela and Gandhi is a down right insult to both of them. The two persons you quoted will be remembered as heroes in history. CSJ? Please. Even if you dun support PAP, at least not put CSJ in the same category as Mandela and Gandhi.
Secondly, there aren't no oppressed blacks or indians here, waiting for a Mandela wannabe to save them from. What an insult I seen to heroes....

wtf?!
Are you sure? Just went for and came back from another round of reservist lately. I can tell you, that's definitely not what I felt with the npc I was attached with. I am not saying all police officers are saints. That is definitely not the case. But to say they simply dun bother or only care to harass harmless old folks gambling at voiddecks is surely untrue, if the team I was attached with recently is anything to go by.
Anyway, public gambling is an offence in the first place. Mostly they just chase away or stop the ppl from doing so. If it ended up in arrests, then the ppl doing it probably went overboard.

Seriously, may i know why you want to sign on as a provost? If you harbour an ambition of being a law enforcer, wouldn't it be more practical to sign on with SPF or CNB? Ultimately, they are the primary law enforcement agency. Plus I served NS in SPF, I can safely say you can learn more stuff there than as provost in army. 2 years there, I was involved in catching housebreakers, illegal immigrants, drug abusers, prostitutes etc. Not to mention I got my class 3 licence and learn about the CPC and Penal Code, just to mention a few chapters. To aim to be a law enforcer, any of these two organisations provides u more scope and real life experiences than MP. Not to be a wet blanket, but I truly feel they serve your purpose more if law enforcing is your cup of tea.
Just happen to come in here and saw this thread. Hi.

Well, that's the kind of democracy we chose when we chose not to do otherwise.Any of us can chose to do otherwise, despite the threats, vote buying, and propaganda, but if we did not, then how?
Eg, Company A kept saying its competitors products or services are inferior, and gives you a lot of perks to 'patronise them instead of company B and C. You can chose to buy from A, or you can chose to buy from B or C regardless of the perks offered, or criticisms of B and C.
Just remember we stay stuck with our choices till the next GE... Unlike sales, where you can throw away the products or stop buying and switch back to A.
My view is die die choose B and C regardless what A says is a way of pushing A out of the business, so long as be prepared to bear the consequences of choices, then carry on.

Ravi was involved in both incidents.
Anyway, as for whether it is politically motivated or not, let's remember Ravi was caught in the act in both instances. How to dispute that? Because of who he is, it suddenly becomespolitically motivated? An offence is an offence, no matter who the person doing it is. It does not suddenly becomes politically motivated when the person committing it is an opposition member. He can be another tom dick or harry and it is still an offence.

The property might not be under his name?
Anyway as for hero, I keep my reservations about that. This guy feels he is a freedom fighter. To qualify as one, you would need someone or some group to free. Who is he trying to free, Singaporeans? I am a Singaporean, born, raised, educated, served NS and work in Singapore. I dunno, but I do not feel enslaved or repressed. Anyway, time and again, even b4 he was declared bankrupt, neither himself nor anyone from his party had won in elections. So talking about support.... erm. Does the ppl he seeks to "free", actually needs him to "free" them?
End of day, he is no lim bo seng or martin luther king.

shoud you be fined in the first place? I mean, if you appealed and quote the reason as no available parking lots in the carpark u r allocated to, won't they kinda like consider the reason and write off or something.
Anyway, what the warden did is sick. but u probably shouldn't capture and put on stomp or whtever. kinda humiliating for both the individual and the organisation. Perehaps u could feedback or complain though

Yup. He will be attended to by the hospital and doctors, and receive a bed in ward if he needs to be warded. Basic healthcare and treatment will still be given to him. I dread to think he will be turned away, even if he had no medishield or medisave. I had to convey a destitute(beggar) to hospital once after arresting him (Police nsman). He was serious enough to be warded. Needless to say, he had no medisave. They warded him anyway. when I chatted with the hospital staff about cases where patients with no money walking in for medical treatment, they told me they will still be treated. If they can't pay upfront, the bills will be mailed to their homes. Guess that's where the bad or doubtful debts comes in. You may want to write in to newspapers forum for MOH's or the hospital's reply. That will clear doubts too.

It isn't really that hard to hide in singapore actually. One thing authority not doing and can't afford to do is mount a door to door search. Wanted criminals can always just hide in some gutsy harbourer house and remains indoors. Just imagine if some harbourer with balls, willing to take the risk, unafraid of the consequences, harbouring msk. That's how some fugitives managed to remain undetected, I think. One hdb block contains how many units and how many blocks of hdb are there. Whoa.... the efforts and disturbance it will cause.

With what purpose and objective in mind? In a peacetime scenario, cops will prob sent in the STAR. Cops dun shoot to kill unless necessary like in life threatening scenario, so there will probably be subjects arrested and brought away. If the aim is to be simply take down the building, with or without prisoners not an issue, the other parties being dead or alive, not an issue, bombard it...
haha... just my humble opinions. Not from army during ns. trained with SOC troops though. Thats all. first time posting in military nuts.

T_a_s: yah lor. My girlfriend went there last saturday for Qing Ming festival. She complained the whole worship part ended about 2 hours later than previously, due to the road block. Actually, why the focus search at cemeteries? aren't many hiding places at a cemetery like old choa chu kang cemetery, isn't it... Or is there? Hahaa.. nvr reali explored that place b4, lots of camps and bases down that place though, right. Think the civil defence academy, home team academy, and tengah airbase around that area. At this stage, I think the searchers themselves might be feeling burned out already. The top move their mouths, the bottom ones do the crap. Guess its the same any and everywhere. Pity the searchers though.

The last election in 2006, I was activated to do security coverage at a nomination centre which was a school premises. That was a weekend. When PAP nominees turn up and prepared to go into the area where the nomination took place, which happened to be the school assembly hall, all eyes were like on them. Press local and foreign, and supporters of PAP turned up.
Subsequently, the SDP came. Excluding the nominee, there were less than 10 persons. A few journalists approached them. No one cheered. That constituency later had a PAP victory.
Those who really think that SDP and Chee are heroes, where were you when they made their calls for the sunday rally? When you are in the voting room casting your votes, at places where SDP contested, who did your votes goes to? If so many ppl really supported them, then I must be confused that day. All those cheering must be cheering for the SDP. Support is not only by words. You can support through your acts. You can support through your votes. So, SDP supporters, where are you?
How come Low cheng Kiang (not sure how to spell his name in English) and Chiam Si Tong are still holding onto their constituency, whereas the SDP never won before? They aint PAP. Guess that's because voters have eyes to see and mind to judge for themselves too.

marizio 13: ok, so I was wrong in assuming your age, sorry.
anyway, the reason I am worked up is because I dun know how a justifiable, act done in self defence and others can cause the shooting officer to draw so much flak from opposers. There is a reason why I quote the penal code, and that is show what the officer did is justified.
I wouldnt call him trigger happy. I mean, look, if he did not do what he did, the cop would be the victim here in this case.
The core duty of the police is to protect life and property, including their own. At a 3m distance, even if I am to walk towards you, I would take like 1 second to cover the distance. Moreover, a man with IMH record, earlier killed another man, and wanting to avoid being arrested thus attempting to attack the officers would not take his own sweet time to walk... So if you think you can take down an armed crazed man without use of firearms... glad you are not a cop facing such a situation, or there be a ceremonial parade for you, with pall bearers.

Just hope they standown the search soon. getting more futile as days goes by... tiring out everyone. Luckily, I wasn't called back for reservist due to this. I know some others are.
My cousins who are still serving their ns or are regulars had many of their off days burned due to this guy. It's been like 2 weeks since he ran off? come on why no orders to stand down yet. Felt like going to jb last saturday with my friend. Then he thought about the stringent custom checks and in the end we didn't go. Sianz...

Quoting the Penal Code:
Nothing done in private defence is an offence.
96. Nothing is an offence which is done in the exercise of the right of private defence. When the right of private defence of the body extends to causing death.
100. The right of private defence of the body extends, under the restrictions mentioned in section 99, to the voluntary causing of death or of any other harm to the assailant, if the offence which occasions the exercise of the right is of any of the following descriptions:(a) such an assault as may reasonably cause the apprehension that death will otherwise be the consequence of such assault;
(b) such an assault as may reasonably cause the apprehension that grievous hurt will otherwise be the consequence of such assault;

Whoa, this is getting more and more interesting... with qns being asked on why lethal force was being used, and alternatives being thought out... guess we are all armchair critics, just that some are armed with more knowledge than the others.
By the way, is any of the opposers' drawn to the fact that it has been ruled as justified as it was in accordance to the law and ROE.
Pls dun tell me that the 13 means some guy is really just 13 yr old in here.
"Only a suspect", some of you claim. L**J**... wait till this "only a suspect" guy is charging at you at close range with a knife. By shooting him, I am not passing the death sentence on him becos I am judge and executioner, which police are not. It's because my life is threatened. Too much muck and being just 13 does affect judgement, I guess.
