The credibility of a religion lies in how well the original teachings from the founder is preserved, and does the system opens itself to possible corruption.
In Buddhism, the original words of the Buddha were well preserved in the Sutras. Buddhist Sutras were compiled by the original disciples of Buddha from the sermons they heard directly from the Buddha. There is no room for infiltration of the non-original since these were crossed verified. There can be no addition, change or modification to the original Sutras and from generation to generation it is the same Sutra that passes down.
In Christainity, the content of the Bible is decided by a committee or council of authority. What were included and what were excluded in the Bible was decided by human. One of their agenda is to control the mind of the fellowers and to make the Churches utmost powerful. They tell you to donate 10% of your salary to your church and have absolute faith in God. Even if God failed you, it is a test of your faith.
One thing I cannot stomach until this day is how could Abraham had the heart to sacrifice his only son just to show God that he had faith in him. Why would God ask a man to sacrifice his own son? To show that no other possession is more worthwhile than God?
Absolute power opens itself for downright corruptions.
As history unfolds itself, there will be many unhidden truths unveil.
This is no an attack to Christainity. We all have our reasons to be in a religion.

We are at the beginning of The dharma ending age that will last 10,000 years according to the Lotus Sutra.
The "demise" of Buddhism cannot be attributed to "competition" among religions. In Buddhism we believe in cause and effect, it is not by chance that you became and remained a Buddhist this life. It is through many life-times of being a Buddhist that linked to you become a Buddhist this life. If you ceased to become a Buddhist, that means your fate with Buddhism ended, in Chinese we called this "yuan".
The "demise" of Buddhism comes in stages. It don't just suddenly disappear or every Buddhist suddenly turned to other religions. It is a long process, that's way it lasts 10,000 years.
I asked myself this question in the past, that how would Buddhism disappear from the face of the earth? Will there be a big religion war that wiped out the weaker one? Or less and less people wants to become monks or nuns due to increasing materialism?
Well, I got a glimpse of what willl cause the "demise" of Buddhism, with the clue from what happened to one of the best important sutra of Buddhism in recent years.
Buddha said that among all sutra that will disappear from this world, The Surangama Sutra (楞严经) will be the first. My reasoning is, it must first appear because it hinters the process of the entire "dharma-ending". This is the sutra that will teach you how to differentiate the real from the fake, the truth and the lies, the good from the evil.
And how would The Surangama Sutra disappear? Somebody burned all hardcopies and destroy all softcopies? No, you can buy millions of the printed sutra and bury it underground for future generation, but it will still "disappear". For simple reason, nobody believes in It anymore.
In recent years, some authorities in Buddhism have been calling The Surangama Sutra a fake. This was fiercely and strongly opposed by Master Hsuan Hua and he defended the Sutra until the day of his paranirvana. But since he is no longer around, who with that authority is going continue defending the sutra? I would speculate that, ironically those in high places will conspire to defame the Sutra.
When no one believes in Surangama Sutra, the virus will enter the Buddhist system and corrupt the entire teachings of The Buddha.
Buddha ever said that "one word that deviates from the Sutra, EVERYTHING ELSE IS EVIL" (一字离经,既成魔)。It would not be one word, it could be a paragraph, one chapter or more.
The increasing number of bogus monks especially those who claimed to be living Buddha is giving us a clue on what will happen to Buddhism.
People who only wants money and fame in religion can spend millions to be conferred a Title by certain organization and authority. They open their dharma centre and publicised to the public that they are living Buddha. Display and showing off Certification of Recognition and Photos taken with well-known Buddhist figures.
Followers will not know they are cheated until their "master" appears in the news with scandals, usually involves sex and money.
Any Buddhist, after encountering two or more bogus masters will start to lose faith in Buddhism. These bogus masters will slowly discredit Buddhism, More and more Buddhist will renouce not the world, but their religion.
So this is how Buddhism will end. Nobody believes in the religion anymore because the authority will be crooks in the future.
That goes the same for all major religions in the world. Religion is recognized as a very lucrative business. It is the fastest way to gather an large organization. You not only control your followers mind, but also their wallet.
Don't be surprised that in the future major religion will be led or at least controlled by big global business enterprises and businessmen.

The PAP is very smart. They bought this forum and let people pour out their feelings on the government naked. There are some instigators here who will pour fuel over fire to encourage you to speak up.
This forum is a true gauge of political sentiment in Singapore and the level of discontentment is high. That is why LKY is worried his son cannot handle.

There is lack of organized efforts from opposition parties. With due respect CSJ is only busy with petty hard crashes with the authority. There must be a strategic plan and organized efforts. To bring down something strong, you don't have to hit it from outside, a strong building can collapse if the internal structures crack. I don't need to elaborate.
But our generation of Singaporean grew up in peace and comfort. We lack the fighting spirits. We are like babies who cry when hungry because we know we'll be fed. We are not the babies who can crawl to the kitchen and make ourselves a bottle of milk.
Remember the old chinese sayings "only when in wars and calamities will a true prince arise". I guess we have not reached that stage. But hopefully when our (*) is kicked hard enough, we don't just cry, we bite.

They don't have to prove anything, they think they have absolute power and control and it's milking time. I'm only puzzled why are they doing things so crude in recent years, they don't bother to hide or conceal anymore.
Think of it, Singapore's success is credited to LKY, but only the young LKY, not the old one. We really lost a true leader. The people who lead now, how much better are they compared to the opposition? PAP is facing a crisis now, no capable person wants to join them. But the capable person is not joining the opposition too because they lack the righteousness to risk-it-all. What Confucius referred to as "She Sheng Qu Yi".

Don't talk so much lah everyone. If the next election we still vote for PAP, we can slap our own face.
We are conditioned to be bo-ji (no guts), we were given a big fright until our balls retracted inside our body in KK the day we were born.
He is out there to scare us again. The question is, do you really dare to vote for the opposition.
The analogy goes like this: PAP is an experience taxi driver but tempered his fare meter and take the longer route so we are always overcharged. Opposition is a new taxi driver who got a kopi license,
The opposition parties must make Singapore feel secured and gain their confidence. They must recruit more creditable professionals especially those brain-drained talents overseas. They must have a definite plan for the future and must show strength of character like Dr.Chee SJ.
Correct or not?

Manual cars are more powerful and accelerate faster if you are very familiar with the car and can coordinate both legs with the right release and step-in. Not forgetting, manual cars are more fuel efficient.
But if you are used to auto, moving back to manual is a big pain.
With this kind of fuel prices, there is no need for car race on the street. If someone drives faster than you, let him or her go unless they roadhog on you after overtaking you. In that case, follow closely, wait for next lane to clear then ram in to overtake, cut back and roadhog him back.

you know why I know? Because the cai tao kuey aunty sell me $2.50 a plate and it used to be $2.00 before I joined sgforums.
Sometimes at night while I was writing something in the forum especially on political issues, I got a feeling that a sniper is aiming at my back from somewhere behind. That's why I always close my windows, draw my curtain and cover myself with blanket in front of computer.

you must be kidding, this forum is owned by SPH. They let you say what you want to say but they mark you from behind.
If one day the SBS bus driver refuse to let you go up the bus, your atm cannot get cash, your credit card cannot be used, your neighbour avoid you and your girlfriend or boyfriend dump you, you should know why. Don't doubt.

If we are always living in fear, when will we Singaporean going to standup for ourselves. Why do we need to succumb to fear that other people create to control our lives?
The so-called rule enforcement if they merely execute what they are ordered to, without thinking, then they are no difference with run-dog. They are like the traitors of Chinese during the japanese occupation, after the jap left, some were stoned to death and their descendents continue to live lives of disgrace forever unable to lift up their heads because of what their forefathers did. Things will always come to an end, no matter how absolute the power is now.
Life is short, if the memories of your life is something you are ashamed of, then you wasted your life and made your descendents ashame of theirs. If there is something you did in your life out of honour, then that honour shall live on after you are long gone. Whether the future generations spit on your tomb or take a minute to salute your tomb, is all your decision now.
Chee Soon Juan is someone not only Singaporean should be proud of, but a celebration of true democracy and fighter of human rights in this era. UN ought to give him an award. He was a high ranking officer in law enforcement and he knew things were not right, and he stood up against the oppression and live by his principle.
How many Singaporean here, truly support him in action. Most of us only support him morally at the back of our mind. Why? Because we are scared to being called to drink coffee?
How much better are we for speaking up and for not speaking up?
You be the judge and please do not bring out these kind of statement anymore. Standup as one Singaporean.

Good friend, same fate?
Remember soon after Ibu Tien (late Suharto's wife) died in 1996. The then President immediately took a downturn and within 2 years he was out of the picture.
Will we see the same thing happening here?
Nothing is forever............the fool clings on, while the wise let go........

Come to think of it, the way our country is ruled now is the same as Indonesia under Suharto's dictatorship. The latter use violence and brute force while the former uses oppressive laws and unreasonable.regulations. The end result is the same, centralization of national wealth to own family.
That's not surprising, both are best friends.

Indonesia was at the verge of civil war at that time. I was told that tanks were aiming at each other below the monument of Jakarta.
The marines were the only one helping the people, guarding housing complexes, etc. The whole country police, fire station, army (except the special forces that was the instigator and provocator) were on paid holidays.
Nobody mentioned about the commander of kopassus, also the son in law.
The Chinese or anyone in Indonesia is safe as long as they are not the target of political manipulations. After the May 13 riots, the theme was religion, which was why some Christains (Chinese or Indonesian) were beheaded and Churches were burnt in some parts of Indonesia.
So the thing is not about Chinese, it's all dirty politics. It depends on what they want to target and sacrifice.

What makes you think I wasn't there when the riots took place. I was in Jakarta and only managed to leave that place on 17 May when the toll road to airport is clear from robbery and hackjacking.

Any extremist ideology or religion is prone to manipulation. Some countries promote extremism because it is an excellent political tool. The religion that believes in one God and supreme authority will obey whatever their religion leaders say. Eventually man becomes god himself. Original scripts from founder were altered and only selected ones were made known to the world. Meanings in the scripts were changed and emphasized to serve their interests.

We should not hold this against the Indonesian. They are just objects of manipulations by previous Indonesian politicans. Indonesia was ruled by iron hands for 32 years by the second President, a very good friend of our current leader. The whole country is ruled to serve only a handful of elites, i.e. the president's family, relatives and friends.
Wages were low and literacy rate was suppressed to ensure that citizens will always obey the ruler and not be influenced by foreign ideologies. Elections were manipulated and votes were bought with money (very cheap about SGD0.80 per vote then), etc.
1998 was a miscalculation by the then president. He merely wanted to suppress the widespread resentment toward the hike in fuel prices. But his motives was capitalized by someone he trusted. They wanted to topple him by creating a wild fire that cannot be contained. They deployed snipers on top of trees along the streets aiming at the hearts of demonstrating students. Students were shot. At the same time, they conducted a highly planned street riots by pouring their instigators (recruited from prisons, hooligans, soldiers, etc) systemically and strategically on various locations. Like a starting fires somewhere and let them meet to create bigger flame. These instigators were given drugs that made them lost their senses and do things they otherwise would never.
Every riot must have a theme, and the theme is targeted toward something that divide the society, such as race, religion, etc. Anti-chinese was a popular theme then, and it was the theme for that riot. Chinese were targeted and they made them think that Chinese is the caused of their sufferings and poverty because the chinese were usually the rich ones. With only 2.5% of total population, the chinese controls 60% of the economy.
Indonesian are unique people. Alone, they dare not do anything. But in a group, they have the guts to do anything. The instigators shown them how to do it and they followed.
To be fair to the common Indonesian, we must see this as political manipulations rather then the nature of certain nationality. The Javanese are very friendly people, but they are very prone to manipulations.
May the victims of the past political crime rests in peace. They can look for the person responsible for this, because he had recently joined them.
