    • No 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow @ Zion Road Riverside Food Centre - the one with the Hallelujah signboard - voted Makansutra Legend.

The Kway Teow comes with a strong "Wok Hei" flavour.

    • What about old school Tze Char @ Sik Wai Sin Eating House. 287 Geylang Road. They are famous for their Steam Fish Head that comes with Fried Lard and Homemade Tofu with Prawns.

Their Kai Lan with Beef and Steam Minced Pork with Salted Fish is not bad as well.

    • Hey FireIce: It was a different tasting session - We had the prawns and dessert which the earlier session did not tried. Also the Wagyu Beef Char Kway has been replaced by Fettucine instead. :)

Skeujin: Well, according to Sharon, people often mistood it for a vegetable and some even though it was an orange.

    • Do you like fusion food? What exactly is fusion food? Are you adventurous enough for fusion food or are you a safe eater who prefer cuisine you are familiar with?

Last Wednesday, I had the honour of being invited by Helena Lim, co-owner of Persimmon (as well as Epicurious at Robertson Quay) to partake in the taste testing session.

The name “Persimmon” was chosen as suggested by Sharon, the other co-owner, because it is a often misunderstood and curious type of fruit, something that aligns with the type of cuisine they served in Persimmon – Fusion – European dishes with a hint of Singapore flair.

    • Well, it is air-conditioned on the 2nd storey, so you can make your way up after you are done smoking... ;)

    • Yes you are right.

I think the owner intended it to be this way. Hidden away from the mainstream - it isn't your posh cafe, that's what I like about it - very simple, very cosy, very homely.

So Have You Gone Om Yet?! Heh

    • Tucked in the corner of the eclectic Haji Lane, there lies a café in a simply refurbished shophouse that you may seek harmony, peacefulness and bliss within the confines - Going Om.

It is a café with a western subculture concept of New Age, where besides food, fun and activities (Flow toys performers e.g. movement artists, spinners, twirlers, circus freaks, martial artists, jugglers, object manipulators gather every Thursday nights), patrons can also get to indulge in intuitive card readings, crystal healing and meditation classes, the latter to be held every Sunday evening at 7pm where one can learn to focus on visualisation and manifestation techniques amongst other skills.

Do give their homemade desserts a try - I personally like their Apple and Pear Crumble.

    • With it’s positioning of a casual dining café specialising in desserts, this word applies very well to Bakerzin. However, with more competition entering the dessert and café market, Bakerzin decided to diversify into the “mains” of a dining experience, which i think only serves to dilute their brand.

Their must try is definitely the signature Warm Chocolate Cake, described as the “melt-in-the-mouth chocolate cake oozing with rich Valrhona chocolate”. The warmness of the cake prepared freshly by the chef harmonised perfectly with the cold Homemade Vanilla Ice-cream. What is also often overlooked is the Orange Confit at the bottom that amazingly complements the bittersweet chocolate cake giving it a subtle fruity flavour to it.

    • Was just invited to a new hidden find at Wessex Estate along Portsdown Road - Pietrasanta - The Italian Restaurant is opened by Jennifer Tan and her husband, Loris Massimini, owners of La Pazzaiola along Holland Drive.

One of the things I like about this place is the simplicity of the décor and furnishing. Diners have a choice of sitting in the spacious dinning area inside or dine al fresco outside the courtyard.

Does anyone else have any interesting hidden find to share?

    • There is this French Cafe in Vivocity, Fre(n)sh, that serves amazing salad. First, I have to admit that I was never a vegetarian person, but their serving of salad was HUGE and their ingredients were fresh. Served in a fanciful lop-sided bowl, the salad was an enjoyment. This is definitely the place for me whenever I feel like eating something healthy.
