Uniofmel admission is pretty strict, not sure whether you're from a polytechnic or straight out from the A's, but if you're from poly, you'll probably end up starting from freshmen year. That is unless you did extremely well for your polytechinc course to earn exemptions. Uniofmel is always looked upon as a class above the rest, but difference in prospects? No one will know exactly which uni will have better prospects.
The above universities I've mentioned above are probably well regarded in Australia as well as in Singapore. Some might say UNSW offers the best engineering courses in Australia, but since Singapore has its short-lived on-campus study a few years ago, I opted for University of Queensland in the end.

Dude,
Are you even aware whether ANU is offering mechanical engineering? I seriously doubt so. By the way, ANU is not known for their engineering courses. If you want to get an engineering degree in Australia, I'll recommend you to get within GO8. Uni of Melb, Syd, Queensland, NSW are pretty reputable.
It's true that Purdue is pretty recognised in terms of engineering aspects. Singapore prospects i am not too sure.
