Hmm if you haven't noticed...This whole erp thingey have been designed to reduce congestion but have evolved into a money spinning gadget that can be tweaked to maximise revenues from everyday cars...
Look at the number of needless gantries popping up everywhere..i wouldn't be suprised if the authorities one day "decided" to set up gantries along the western or eastern part of the island.
What originated as a tool to curb traffic congestion have been abused into a money spinning tool. Soon alternative routes to everyone's destination would be "ambushed" by gantries and I predict that it would no longer be of any incentive to find a less congested route to avoid the erp.
So what's the aim here? Make the public scrap their cars and take the public transports? How congested already are our trains and buses....Even if that's the case..it would be the perfect excuse to raise public transport prices.
Over demand of public transport...How convenient?

Hmm whoever said that 21st birthdays are celebrated only once..
I would say who celebrates their 22th birthday twice? So I would say it's not really about the rarity but rather mindset. I have many friends around me, mostly females, who have been talking about how they should celebrate their 21st..
It would come across to me as an over hyped thing. True it's a significant day in our life, adulthood as it will signify...But hearing friends talk about a 100 person party or what really baffles me. For me, I spent it in camp with my army mates munching on night snacks..Over just like that..Just another day to me...
Are 21st really that important? Girls, shoot your replies...Let me understand your perspectives.

You didn't get my point. I said I'm precisely going to take less cabs. And pulling bmw and bungalows at $1 in is not really making any sense.
My point is that I don't see any crucial reason for them to rise the price at this time and that cabs unlike mac donalds are "goods that we might be forced to buy" Therefore consumers some time do not have an option to show their dis pleasure at the hike.
And just a side issue. I do not think that cabbies are underpaid as compared to other service occupations. Might not have a fixed income but the incentive to work extra hours sure is high. Afew trips down some night spots would have covered the rental easily. Correct me if i'm wrong as I'm not a cabbie.
And I certaintly believe that comfort and friends are already making a huge tidy profit. So why the hike at this hike?

Don't u see the timing of the hike ?
The timing is meant for us to have a bite , or we'll regret it .
When u are a cabby , and u see the amount of money people spent in Orchard Road shopping , bags after bags , branded stuff after branded stuff , u'll be stupid not to earn them extra $4 for bookings .
If u see the cash sales machines rolling non-stop , taxi fare is nothing !!!I would beg to differ. Citing the price hike as a way of a bonus scheme for cabbies would not be a fair illustration. The nature of cabbies is to have an "unlimited" upside to their income ( of course not forgetting downside) thus comparing wage schemes would be inappropriate.
Next up, people spending on branded stuff does not make it an excuse for the taxi companies to raise their price. So if your point was that people would not feel the pinch if they could afford branded stuff, that is another fallacy.
So could mac donalds use that as a reason to rise prices.
So to the main argument that the rise of cost particularly oil prices is the leading factor to this hike. What I feel is that oil price up leads to higher cost..
Ok fair enough to rise price. But is this the real reason? Did the companies, cabbies, campaign for a lower taxi fare when oil prices were lower or for this instance would they ask for a lower taxi fare when oil prices were to revert to the old prices. That Im quite sure is a big NO.
I'm not whining here because I feel the hike is unfair for commuters ( although I presonally think that's the case) but rather at the manner it was raised.
The hike is simply exorbitant and for someone like me, an incomeless student, I would only be taking less taxis; definitely only when it's absolutely necessary. But I do feel for those who does not have a choice. A few dollars extra per trip can easily add up to over a hundred dollars INCREASE.
But this is a situation which cannot be helped. What can we possibly do?
Just less taxis I suppose.

That was supposed to be a joke to show you how ridiculous your position is and you quote me and then extend it claiming that you do that?
You tell your wife "Today I gambled at the road" went in fact you meant you were driving?
You tell your fren "Today I was gambling..." when in fact you went to CK Tang and bought a shirt?

I don't know know what's your whole point of this discussion but one thing I know for sure. That is you are lacking some sense of humor.
There's something called a metaphor. Go figure.

It started with a discussable topic...Gambling, like forex trading, never pays
Some agree while some don't. Ended up with TS shooting down and "name-calling" everyone that disagrees.
In every other reply. Gross stupidity is omnipresent in every of his replies.
What's ypur point TS? May I make a guess. You are telling us that everyone who disagrees with you is equivalent to saying " 1 + 1 = 0" and that you simply have to redicule them because they are beyond redemption.
But TS have you thought of it? Is your sweeping topic actually the fact or rather like what I feel is simply your own opinions. So if you can't even prove with evidences that your statement is a fact, they are just your opinions.
So stop going around saying that anyone who opposes your fact is wrong.
Do some self reflection please. If I come out with the statement that everyone who saves are idiots and stubbornly keep to the view that I am right and that everyone who opposes must be wrong.....I will be the biggest joker myself.
I'm not saying that you are wrong, though I sincerely feel so, but I hope that you do get my point. Opinions are opinions...You do not have to start conjuring more and more untrue comments to back up your point.
And plese save any flaming for yourself. I'm not here to argue.

Hmm..that comment was simply unwarranted and does not contribute to any part of this discussion.
Big headed?? I feel it's protecting his men. of course there's a fine line between over-defending which would be deemed abuse of authority and the pure concern of the welfare of his guy.
Everyone knows that not improper bearing is an offence and that we know equally better that the rules can NOT be followed like a bible. Thins must always be seen in context so there is this flexibility to go "around" the rulebook at times. So as an officer, it's his duty to take care of the welfare of his guys. The fact that he is given the power to employ that flexibility would warrant him to look at things and decide on what is right and wrong. So clearly he felt that the punishment was inappropriate and that TS should NOT be asked to carry heavy loads. So how can one say that he is childish or whatsoever.
But to look at this situation from other angles would perhaps show that the officer had no respect for the csm. But how knows what this situation is. Maybe he didn't command at all any respect in the first place. That's hypothetical... So my point is...rules and written by humans..bending the rules does not imply defiance or whatsoever. Cheers

I feel something bad is happening..... maybe she dislike mi already..... I have been bothered by this matter this whole wk.... Wat should i do now??
Dear TS, after reading up on all the suggestions and advice given, I must say that no 2 person is alike and more importantly it's up to your own intuition to figure how you should advance. It's hard for us to give the perfect advice through reading your written text as we would not be able to picture the exact scenario. But judging from what you have said, I would say that you might have turned her off. But there's no point dwelling in what might have happened as you would never know what she is actually thinking.
So my point here is go with the "feel' like I always do. And on the girl's perspective, going out with you on a date have already indicated a willingness to know more about you. I might not be a hint of fancying you but at least the basic interest is there. And to be fair to her, she's already taking a step in by meeting you so should you turn her off, it's only right if she discountinue this "dating relationship". Try afew more times and ask her directly if you have offended her in any way.
Sincerity goes a long way in a rs and all is not lost till she gets attached.
So all the best.. Perserverance is the key, that I can vouch for with my name..
Hope to hear from you soon

Its just amazing how this thread can go so long without any conclusion...
So how's everything TS? Was reading the first few posts...and if what you are saying is true, word for word, then I think the OC is gonna get into serious trouble. It's peacetime training and he's breaching TSR blatantly...
Bewildering also to hear how the CO could not have known and done something..or even chose not to do anything..anyway hear from u soon ts...
the avenues to rectify this problem is aplenty...just need more light on the matter..
Anyway I hope ur bf is fine...and not go like things get corrected only after something have happened..like it always do...
