if an outsider picks up the pass and try to use it to gain entry you think ppl so stupid. photo on pass and person looks different. and pass number is reported loss. and the rps still never stop? even if pass not reported lost, looking at the photo tells part of the story. and common sense if a stranger tries to book into a camp with a camp pass and you quite sure you never see this stranger before in this camp, you wont stop and ask or look closely at the pass?

last but no least, pls lah use yr head and think before you open your mouth can? i think u more suitable for sispec. not ocs. grow your pubic hair ok. dont make simple issues drama mama over a camp pass. you haven even got the officer rank and you still want to talk nonsense to me. simple bmt you cant even perform well enough to enter ocs you still want to sign on as officer? icon_lol.gifi feel ashamed to stand beside you man. enter ocs this way.

wat u have described is ideal.

however, the reality is often not as sweet. and again, much of it is due to complacency (if we dont bring in other factors like attitude or simply lack of interest).  u can have RPs who are really not interested in what u flash at them - be it credit cards or some other camp's pass.

the other problem is in the variety of passes we have.  yes a vigilant RP will stop someone with an unfamiliar pass. but when that someone bears rank, chances are this may not happen.

then there is the problem with outdated photos on the pass.  of cos, if the photos are visible or still complete in the first place.

finally, although a seasoned RP may recognise faces, most of our RPs are NSFs.  They change and when that happens, such memory is lost.

what all these tell us is that there is no foolproof security system.  all parties in the community must play a part - whether those who have been given certain security rights, those who police these rights and prevent breaches in security, etc.  the system is only as strong as the weakest link in this chain.  complacency or lack of interest or urgency when it comes to security issues thus pose a threat to the system.  so losing a camp pass is really not as trivial as u think.

though im a taoist and i detest those who keep trying to convert me, i still read those mails and find some stories nice and interesting.

ok. but i believe it is an informal, unofficial association rather than an SAF recognised body... i may be wrong though.

i understand the implications of some of such minor offences leading to sth major…but my pt is: y must we always magnify the -ve stuff n blow it out of proportion? wad abt the gd stuff? do we magnify them n reward handsomely? i have an acquaintance who spent 2 wks rehearsing for NDP…mind u, he wasnt arrowed to do it, he volunteered…at the end of the “shiong” rehearsals, guess wad? no incentive!!! they even had to ask for the reward n in the end onli got 1 miserable day off!!! is tis how the proportion of rewards n punishments shld be like?? no wonder so many ppl refuse to sign on n serve the nation…

having said tis, if offences r to be magnified n punished severely, then shldnt good acts also be magnified n rewarded handsomely???

      a few things here...

      1. the "practice" of magnifying the bad and ignoring the good is not an SAF trait.  if u haf noticed, it is a singaporean or asian trait. look at wat u r doing now - u r magnifying the bad, but ignoring the good of the saf disciplinary system, yes?

      2. as we go about magnifying the bad, we tend to focus on extreme, outlier cases, and forget that they are the rare cases, rather than the norm.  in most if not all cases, wrongdoings are investigated and punishments meted out that is proportional to the wrongdoing, and does not go to the extent of destroying one's career or life. having small punishment for small offences is necessary as punishment as with training needs to be progressive so that the wrongdoer can be given a second chance while serving a light punishment.  and all these applies again not only to the SAF but our society in general.

      3. if u r talking about punishments being unfair here, then the issue about rewards is separate.  in any case, there can be thousands of possible reasons why the reward as u have mentioned was as such.  are u sure u have given the saf a fair hearing or u simply heard a one-sided story from the person who was most negatively affected by the situation?

absolutely true. and we are paying the price of our complacency already. sad thing is some people still dont realise it, and continue to be complacent! it must really be into their heads...

and if there is one, my sense is that the saf does not officially sanction it.

oh.. haha... well. i think by turning ops, the common understanding is when an in-service personnel successfully completes a series of training, rendering him "operational"; on the other hand, by ORD, it really means the date when an NSF completes his NSF liability.  erm... i have to think abit to understand why it is then called "operationally ready".  in the past it used to be ROD (run-out date) but i guess it didnt sound too nice (machiam expiry date) hence they changed it.

    • perhaps some questions to ponder over:

      1. what is the meaning of "turning ops"? turning ops to do what?

      2. so, do we need to "turn ops" (defined as it is currently, as what most of us understand it to be), in order to conduct such or similar ops?

      3. exactly what roles are our soldiers playing in such ops, and specifically, during this search?

      4. hence exactly what skills and knowledge do we need to equip our soldiers in order to conduct such ops?

as we all know this search has been going on for quite some time.  there is probably a need to consider factors like sustainability, sanity (of the soldiers doing the ops), safety and of cos, skills needed, in deciding who to call upon.

    • i c.. the mangrove swamp and bird watching tower? thanks! i used to run every evening - night in area 3... towards the end of area 3 (where there's the bird sanctuary or something, at least at that time) where the jogging and cycling path u-turns, there are stretches of bushes.  thought what the TS talked about was there.. but that part of the park can be quite quiet at night too. and a few times, when the streetlamps throughout the park was out of order, it can be quite interesting

    • mabbe they should offer a $1m (or more, from the hefty budget surplus we have) for him.  so that if he has any accomplish in singapore, he would also think twice before turning to them! and of course, singaporeans would be much more motivated to aid in the search.

    • hello.. havent been here for quite some time! has it changed!

anyway just to clarify some things: in operations such as this one, the police takes the lead, and saf supports.  as for bearing arms, its a public image thing.

seems like injured knee is one of the most common injury one can get in bmt or army. slipped disc is another maybe?

so what the other common injuries you encountered in bmt? maybe we can list them out so future enlistees can train up the respective areas before they enlist to prevent such injuries.

wow... havent seen you post here for quite some time! Wink
