Why do you think the 5C's applies to women?
And has now increased to 7C's!
And, of course, the fabled SPG, none of whom will ever admit being a SPG, but everyone knows one when they see one.

I'm not sure why so many ppl are against this OP.
There must be a strong anti Indian racism still going through SG.
But what he's done is too little, too late.
Overwhelmingly more and more Asian females prefer White men over their own.
Last year in China, 69,000 Chinese women married white men, an increase of almost 40% over the year before.
In the US, which has about 12-14 million Asians, 41% of American Asian women who got married, married White men in 2006.

May I ask why you have to see the NS doctor?
You work normal hours, at least some of the days, right?
Perhaps you could see a normal doctor. Most work into the night, some until midnight.
Have a chat with them, and get a referral from them. Even if you dont get the referral, the doctor, if male, will understand since they will likely have done NS as well.

There's the ideal situation, and then there's the practical and realistic situation.
As I've written in different threads, Singapore is unlikely to produce and home grown Olympian medalists in the near future. It's not the culture here is focus on sports for years on end.
Also, there is not a single country in the world which has champions in every sporting field.
Not one.
So they all poach and import when necassary. Not just the athletes, but coaches too.
The "problem" here is that the sportspeople in question are from China.
It's pretty common knowledge that many Singaporeans are biased against the Chinese.
And it's ironic too.
You import them to help raise the bar for Singapore, and yet you abuse them.
If they win, then well,...they're not real Singaporeans, just rejects from China.
If they don't win, then well,...they're not real Singaporeans, just rejects from China.
You cant have it both ways my racist friends.
You either stay talentless and remain Olympic losers.
Or you close your mouth and stop being mean to those who have given year of their lives to play in your country's name.

Getting back to original topic, I dont think a home grown Singaporean is likely to win any medals soon. Even if it happens, it'll just be a rare event.
Singaporeans are too focussed on studies, not sports.
Compare this to Australia, which, as I wrote in another thread, is first on a per capita basis in medal wins.
If I compare Sydney with Singapore, you can see a huge difference in priorities.
(both have almost the same population)
In Sydney, Rugby League is a $1.5 billion industry. It's so big, that Rupert Murdoch tried to take it over about 15 years ago. It was one of his rare failures that he didnt succeed. There are tennis courts everywhere. In the winter tens of thousands of kids enrol to play weekend soccer, netball and rugby, and cricket in the summer. Professional sports clubs even have their own licenced buildings which have restaurants, poker machines and bars.
In Singapore, there is no real sports industry to speak of. On weekends kids go to Mcdonalds to study.
The Singaporean culture of study has, of course, contributed tremendously to it's financial status, so that's not a bad thing.
But dont expect many home grown sporting champions any time soon.

Was letting my mind wander on the way to the train station last night and had an epiphany.
On a per capita basis, Australia is first in Olympic medals.
1 China 47 17 24 88 2 United States 31 36 34 101 3 Russia 18 18 22 58 4 Great Britain 18 13 12 43 5 Germany 15 9 13 37 6 Australia 13 14 16 43
Australia has 43 medals.
The US has 101 and China has 88.
Oz's population is 21m, USA's is 300m, and China's 1,300m
Oz got 43, thus USA needs to win 43 x 15 = 645 just to break even with Oz. (300m/21m =15 approx)
China needs to win 43 x 62 = 2,666 medals to equal Australia on a per capita basis.
It also shows how sports mad Australia is. They are as sports focused as Singaporeans are academically focussed.
Ok, epiphany over, back to your regular channel :)

Angel 7030:
"Look, the analogy here is very simple, NS or army camp is not a venue for socialising and match making, it will make the army loose it credibility as a defend force with weak legs soldiers whereby instead of concentrating on war defend strategy, he is wondering if he can match or woo that army gal.
And worst, bear in mind, Army train us to be more discipline and self substainable, as a gal, i may get more tough like man and refuse to marry cos i see myself as self substainable and commanding with a honor army training. So, in the end, less marriage and birthrate occur. And to guys, do you want a commanding wife??"
** If any of you look at my previous thread on why women should serve NS, increasing the birthrate was not the main reason I listed, although it was one of the benefits.
And do not think that doing physical training will turn you into a female Arnie.
You would be surprised how many girls are physically active- like the Netballers you see on posters at MRT stations, or black belts in martial arts, but in their civies look like demure feminine babes.
And physical training will make everyone look better, since you have to move- so no more fat people. (hopefully)
Girls are already tougher and more confident these days since many of them go to uni. There's a heap of threads complaining that females are now too career focused. Armed Forces training is hardly likely to change that.

"that depends on the type of ns, like what some of us here mentioned it need not be the army. it might even be something that only consists of girls."
**That is true. It may turn out to be all girl. However, once masses of females arrive, there no doubt will be social activities, like annual balls etc. THis will give people a chance to know other people
" Oh gimme a break.
The schools are co-ed (male and female in same school.. same class), how come that is not working to push up couplehood ?
Please lah.. are you saying that ONLY in NS.. will male and female mate ? Pffttt !!.
Not a very well thought out comment.. if I may say so."
** jojobeach- the comments in your reply are inaccurate. Of course NS will not be used to force preganancy or any other silly things. I meant that it would allow many people to potentially meet hundreds more people than what they might have the chance to meet otherwise.
Schools are not a good example to use because:
- not all schools are coed.
- people are too young physically and immature to be considering parenthood.
- although a school has hundreds of people, it's still a microcosm compared to 38,000 people doing the same thing, like NS.
The only environment which allows hundreds of people of similar age to mingle is polytech and uni. But these are still limited by course, subject and you dont get to meet those who didnt get in.
NS has no intellectual or class barriers.
" Like this huh???Wow!!! Later the army boys, instead of courting and marrying us, they take us as comfort women only, then how???"
** Of course rape and sexual abuse is a real concern in the armed forces. Even in the US armed forces a senior officer said to the media that women there are much more likely to be assaulted by fellow male armed force colleagues than by enemy combatants.
However, being comfort women is highly unlikely.
One thing about being in the armed forces is that you get training- you learn some martial arts, you learn how to use weapons. You will gain confidence and wont be helpless. Remember, currently in the armed forces, females are heavily outnumbered. Once it is about 50:50, things will be different. Women will be trained to fight with the same weapons. It is very possible for a gang of women to inflict the same damage as a gang of men. A man rapes a woman?-> he'll suddenly find himself dragged behind a shed and anal probed.
I know a girl who turned down a job with SIA to join the Air Force. She did all the physical training and can assemble and disassemble rifles no problem- she loves it. Dont think dainty girls will be shy dainty girls. You can be feminine, but still strong of mind and have martial arts skills too.

"Making female go NS doesn't increase birth rate.. it will in fact only further reduce it."
Not so.
As I said in a thread on Women serving NS I put up last year, making women do NS will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for all the 38,000 to 40,000 people of that age to potentially meet. This will lead to possible immediate and future relationships. Some might get the bug straight away and marry, others will meet and become a couple for years before marrying, and some might meet, not see each other for yers, bump into each other and tie the knot.
Obviously you cant meet every single person. But you will see hundreds and thousands more, and meet many of them. Singaporeans are naturally shy. This way you have something in common you can talk about, an "in".
It makes it much better than all19,000 women not knowing the other 19,000 men of their own age.

Damn, you beat me to it Saline

Interesting question- style vs substance.
Can you imagine how the girls might feel in a few years when they are old enough to understand what happened? And also how people might treat them.

wow, it must have been very far down the list.
Fireice- i saw you locked a topic by another forumer who had a thread about the % of children who have non Singaporean male and female parents. You said they must do a search and if they duplicate a thread 3 times, they are banned.
I note there is another topic on women serving NS which already has hundreds of posts- but this topic has been duplicated many times in the past, including by myself.
Any reason that topic is not locked?

It was surprising to see that there was no sports forum, so I’m posting this amusing article from Australia and the swim suits Olympians are wearing now.
(As an aside- i find it incredible that a forum on buses is second in popularity in SGForums. I cant think of a single first world country that would have buses in the top 5, but no sports)

“Budgies: an endangered species
Marissa Calligeros | August 8, 2008 – 2:28PM
A bunch of Brisbane blokes have braved the winter chill in a push for the return of the humble ‘budgie smugglers’ in Beijing.
The group paraded through the CBD in traditional swimming briefs in a mock protest against Olympic swimmers donning controversial LZR Racer bodysuits as part of a radio stunt led by Triple M’s breakfast team.
“Bring back the budgies! Bring back the budgies for Beijing!” the chorus of barely clad men, including host Greg “Marto” Martin, chanted to an amused crowd of shoppers and city office workers.
“It’s time for today’s ‘soft’ swimmers to harden up and stand proudly on the blocks.
“If they are good enough for Warwick Capper they are good enough for our Olympians.
“What was it that led Warwick Capper to become the leading goal scorer of the late 80s?
“Did Kieran Perkins need to hide his nipples in (1996) when he stopped the nation for gold? When Duncan Armstrong and John Sieben went for gold in (1984) and (198
all they
had was Laurie Lawrence with a rolled up newspaper and a pair of
smugglers.”The group, which included breakfast cohorts Sami Lukis and Ian Skippen, claimed full body swimsuits were an “assault against good sportsmanship” and “completely unAustralian.”
Onlookers Erica Armagnacq and Kathy Ellison said they had no reservations about seeing our primed swimmers sport a pair of lycra nickers.
But as for Aussie blokes on the beach…
“It depends on their physique,” Mrs Armagnacq said.
“But my partner certainly won’t be allowed to step out in a pair.”

Thanks COMF. I’ve never heard of that before. Yep- you’re spot on.
And you’re quite right. Online, they are bold and rude. In real life, they are skinny boys easily intimidated.
Having said that, I do find that does help make Singapore a safer place. Compare that to Western countries where white dudes get pissed and rowdy and you start to feel nervous when you walk by a poorly lit area at night. I mean, No one in their right mind would take their family with kids on a train at midnight in a city in a western country. You’d expose the kids to druggies, alcos, and there’s a pretty good chance of being mugged, raped and killed. It’s not an issue in Singapore.
So in the greater scheme of things, I think SG guys should stay “meek as pussies”.

There’s always people around with an over inflated ego and unrealistic expectations.
The OP’s story reminds me of a case a few years ago of a Korean lady in the US (surname Kim, I think) who had a personal email that she wrote to a few friends, forwarded around the world, where she basically said the guy she dated had no chance as he didnt have what Singaporeans call the 5 C’s (or is it 6 or 7 these days?
) The worldwide response was that she was a
materialsitic slut.In an ironic twist, in the ensuing aftermath, she was seduced by a guy who had absolutely none of the 5 (or 6 or 7) C’s.
You see, everyone was laying into her, and this guy saw his opportunity to stand out and did the opposite, writing emails supporting her and telling her what she wanted to hear. She fell for him and quickly did the naughty before he stopped seeing her.
I’d pay good money to have learn his skills
