I disagree with bohiruci's usage of karmic fruition in this context, to stop the debate on the relic.
My family has donated around $10,000 to said temple. I consider them to be of said "min jian xin yang". I do not consider myself a true buddhist either, not taken refuge in the triple gems, but rather a learner of buddhism, though not qualified in any way nor attended formal classes. You can even say my buddhism background is dubious.
Their primary motive for donating was that they believed that the relic was authentic and wanted to accumulated merits for our family and the community at large. So far, they have faith in the relic. Having said this, being donors, I feel that I have a legitimate right to know the truth and to take part in any discussions, without slandering anyone.
I do not take any side regarding this controversy. But i feel entitled to hearing from both sides of the fence. I resent your clamping down of the debate, but I welcome you to debate others who hold differing views from you.

but still, I feel that its unbecoming for a guy to have served ns (reservist/ex-regular) to receive a gal's pay...surely those yrs in green must have counted for something

Originally posted by sanath:I think the main problem for the Buddha Relic Temple is that it is accountable to many Buddhists in Singapore and overseas who have donated so much money and effort. If the tooth is found to be fake, then the temple and Ven Fazhao would be in big trouble. I agree with u to a large extent. Besides that, most singaporeans r not actually true buddhists per se, but rather practioners of "min jian xin yang" as AEN has pted out. Many of them will be concerned over the authencity of the tooth relic. How many of them have donated mainly because they feel that the tooth relic is authentic? I feel that true buddhists will not be so worked up, as they see donating as a meritiorious act.
What I dun agree is with Ven Fazhao's comments. As a buddhist monk of high repute, he should take part in this healthy debate, instead of avoiding it. My impression of buddhism is that of a rational philosophy, not a faith-based religion.
