Being weak is bad enough, being fat and weak is so much worse. If I had my way, I would lock up fat people and starve them for a month. Sure, they'll end up thin and weak, but better thin and weak than fat and weak.
I did that to myself six years ago after reconstructive surgery on my right knee. I was 90kg obese with a bad knee. What kind of rehab could I do? Don't tell me leg press, leg curl or leg extension, I'll kill you. Anyway, since I was sitting on my ass on MC, might as well starve and become a thin weak ass instead of a big weak fat ass. Dropped all the way down to 62kg in five weeks. No strength to speak of, but hey, 28kg less stress on the legs, that's a lot.
Honestly man, active people who are fat, no big deal, just need to tweak their diet. Sedentary people who are fat? Where do you start from, tell them to train when they can't even move themselves? Or clean up their diet? Or both? If you think that's bad, how about sedentary elderly people who are fat? Anyhow, it's a lousy situation they've gotten themselves into, so too bad, they've got to tough it out anyway they like to get themselves out.
Officially I support HIT and cleaning up the diet, but if I had my way, I'd surely lock them up for a month and let them starve.
