    • do you live in a 2 storey home?
a simple method is to open the windows on opposing sides of the house on different floors. typical laws of convection will send cool air running through the 1st floor while the heated air raises up out the 2nd.

curtains and blinds. if you leave your house during the day and HAVE to shut all the windows, draw the curtains and blinds. less light = less heat.

sites like these usually have some good tips, somewhere. the above 2 tips came from there, though i don't remember where exactly. maybe the forums?

    • Working taking up more time than expected, but I couldn't resist the urge anymore so went to glue some junk foam together, will be building a model of the dummy-tank. what's inside will be the charger, motor controller and if enough space, maybe a little glove/tools compartment.

Am currently toying with the idea of placing the instrument panel on the tank as well, so there'll be more space available to build a more aggressive front.

    • blame the companies for raising costs and implementing an unviable system, not the drivers. they're merely trying to survive.

rather than doubling late night fares, they should instead halve late night rentals. this solves the problem of the drivers not earning enough to cover rentals unless having a double fare.

another is to hire the driver as a fixed-salary employee rather than a freelancing driver, and offer reasonable compensation for the work done, rather than give subsistence level wage like what was proposed some time back (which, ironically was announced some time after i posted a detailed proposal for fixed salary drivers online).

    • if your daily commute is less than 50miles, please switch to an electric car. it's not just shifting the source of pollution from cars to power plants like many people tell me..... better explained below.

      http://www.electric-cars-are-for-girls.com/electric-powered-cars.html

this best describes my motive for going electric, though there are also other reasons.

Another point is that controlling emissions from several hundred power plants is much easier than controlling the emissions from 187 million internal combustion engine vehicles.

    • made new models for the engine, controller and batteries.
switched to another type of batteries because of size constrictions, can 'comfortably' fit in 3 batteries this time. will be building a mockup of the mounting plates tomorrow, hopefully i'll be able to start building the frame by next week, though that's not likely as the next 3 weeks is full of report deadlines.

      image

      image

will probably be making use of the old mounts seen here.

    • Since we claim to base our education system on the british, it's also time we move a head with the times.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytechnic#United_Kingdom

Under the Further and Higher Education Act, 1992 they became fully fledged universities. The UK government recognised that the difference between Polytechnics and universities had become irrelevant and confusing.

Like I've always said, either we merge the polys with the unis, or we merge the polys with the JCs. Streamline our education system and remove another step in the discrimination ladder.

Now you know why Jap workers work so late... part time workers get S$16 per hour...

In Singapore your wage cannot survive? They do not raise the wage, they give your job to foreigners...

official minimum wage in japan is ~650yen.
      depends on area.
central tokyo has the highest wages, between 800~1250yen per hour. move to the outskirts and it's around 700~1100. move out of tokyo to areas like osaka, kobe, kyoto etc, and 700-900 is the standard.

also, full time wage is 2x that of part time wage.
so if you're a full time staff, you're paid roughly 2000yen per hour.

    • not a kit, bought the parts seperately and assembled together myself.

      experimenting with engine/battery layouts.
      currently settled with these 2.

      image

      image

problem with the 1st layout is that there isn't much leeway between the batteries and the front wheel. should be there a situation where i had to brake suddenly, the diving action might cause the wheels to brush against the batteries.

layout 2 looks cramper but that's only because the engine mock up was placed slightly higher up forcing the batteries forward. there is actually a lot more space in between. problem is that with layout 2, i won't be able to have more than 2 batteries, while i might be able to squeeze in a 3rd battery with the 1st layout.
      image

batteries are supposed to be angled to the right, but gravity is working against me at the moment. i'm also a little wary of ground clearance. is it too low?
good thing there are no road humps in japan.
      image

eitherway, i will be making new mockups for the engine and batteries, i think they ought to be a little more to scale. besides that i also need to cut off some of the older engine mounts which are getting in the way.

this particular mount pushes the engine forward, i'm thinking of removing it totally. it's welded to the subframe which is welded to the main frame, which is going to take a lot of creative manuveuring.
      image

hidden behind the battery is a mount i purposely left behind, thought i could use it for the trays or engine bay. will not be removing it yet till i have a better idea of the final layout.
      image

this is where the controller goes. i could actually fit 1 battery in here, but i feel safer with the controller and charger in this area than having it in the tail.

Or are there other reasons? Hmm....

i'm betting on the latter as well.
      too abrupt.

    • The only way for poor Singaporeans to become richer is to increase productivity. No point competing with the Bangladeshi road sweeper because with a plentiful supply of cheap labour in this region (we are not in Europe), we cannot afford to price our labour above productivity. [/b]

ah yes, if we prevent foreigners from being employed as road sweepers, and demanded a minimum wage for local sweepers, all cleaning companies would close up shop and move to JB because it is cheaper to hire sweepers there. such would be the same for all other unskilled jobs, they would up and move out of singapore, and we would all be left buried deep in thrash, no one to clean our hawker centres, empty the rubbish bins or sweep the roads. oh, what shall we do?

      indeed, your logic is astounding.

    • is the coward the one that flees the battlefield only to open a means for others to live, or the one that is unwilling to leave and ends up a memory?

like soul rage said, who cares about the piece of land when it is the people that is invaluable. fighting is not the only way 1 has to show his patriotism. keeping its people alive, thereby keeping the memories and spirit of the country alive is much more important than dying in a pointless war.

and lastly, cowardice should not be mixed up with non-patriotism. just because one sees no point in dying for this particular country doesn't mean that person is a coward. it simply means that person doesn't care about the country.

my point is that at this point in time, with the unfair odds given, with chee in parliament, he will act as a check and balance against the pap. until the pap loses the majority of seats, and we get a fair distribution of power among the different parties, with suitable people placed in suitable cabinet positions, whatever chee proposes will just be stoned walled.

    • and as i have mentioned, he is there to ensure the PAP's faults and mistakes are not hidden away. he is there to keep check and balance, and if he were to be voted into parliament as an MP, his role would be to question the government on the policies they have formulated, highlight the flaws, critique it and ensure the people's demands are met.

as for your question, it has already been answered by atobe.

I do not disagree with all that he has mentioned. However, I wonder if Singaporeans can visualise him as our future PM.

Can he guarantee there's no poverty if he's PM?

Can he guarantee hospital waiting times be shortened considering our severe lack of doctors and nurses?

Can he effectively reduce Singapore's widening income gap?
