I want the short-cuts..
the most effective way..
why my teachers always deny my points..
even for AQ
my friend answered the same point as me with the same example..
but my remark was ur point is too shallow
and his answer was used as the model answer

read straits time lor..especially the commenary section, see how they express their views..dont read things like entertainment, sports news etc

i represented my sch for the current affairs competition
im one of the best on current affairs.. politics..
but my essay cant score high marks -
Read the forum section of the straits times, see how points are put across.
You know why you take GP? So next time you go uni, you know how to do proper referencing. -
it's not the pt that u wrote that determined the grade,it's how u write the AQ..it would be better if u rewrote the AQ and show it to ur tutor for examination.
AQ requires relevance of topics,coherence of pts mentioned,most impt of all..EvALuAtiOn of the pts!

its your use of language.
you might have the idea, but not efficient when it comes to putting the idea across i guess....
well, your GP tutor will be e best help of all.
like what others say: there is no short cuts in doing well.
i personally sucks at GP...but did reasonably well for my standard...as i nv go pass C6 as a grade for GP...i took e initiative to consult my tutor, and did more papers for her to mark and comments... -

Can try to read more of political Satire and commentaries on world issues to See how the arguements are feted.
The articles written by the columists on Saturaday and Sunday are worth a good read. Here are some interesting blogs on political dissent

ok read ALOT!!and after that, get ur teacher to analyse HOW to answer the question..
u dun need to know what examples and all that kind of crap for a question u answered before,cos it will never come out again..
what u need to know is how to answer that particular kind of question,and that type might come out again -
start prayin.. amyb it will help.... go CHC n b a pastor... den ask god 4 e ans...

1. Define your topic premises so you can structure your essay around it.
2. Go in depth. Don't just say "Raising bus fares are bad because economy in recession, and they already raised it 3 times in last 5 years". List examples, Statistics, historical evidence, compare situations.
Which means - research.<<-- this one hor.. no shortcut.
3. Quote famous people.
4. Plan your essays. Got good points, no plan also no use. What's your premise? How far do your points support your premise? What points goes against your premise?
5. Round it up
Basically writing GP is like writing out a debate strategy. It isn't just a matter of illustrating points. Imagine you are on a debating team and given that topic. Every point you give may be debunked by your opponent (who incidently is also you), how would your opponent give the other side of the story? How can you convince your audience that your conclusion is the one that makes the most sense? -

May I give a suggestion..? I think it would be best for you if you hire a tutor specializing in GP. That would be the most effective short cut by far, as you wanted.
